Default how customised is your SH3?

No matter how hard I try, I can't resist customising this game. Of course, that is part of the beauty of it - anyone with a little experience can change the setup to exactly how they want it, and the jones mod enabler makes life very simple and ultimately reversible.

My setup is basically NYGM 2 with the following personal alterations:

1. Crew fatigue completely removed (simply can't be bothered with all that - leave it to the bosun).

2. Tooltips removed (boy, are they annoying).

3. All stations converted to German text, especially TDC.

4. My own keyboard commands added. Principally I do this to speed things up in a crisis - I have keys allocated to depth reports, visual sighting requests, and a few more to take me directly to stations such as the engineers section.

5. The large dials mod added - the compass being especially good.

6. campaign.scr modified to get rid of all friendly E-boats and destroyer harbour patrols - so now I can get out and into action with decent TC.

7. Option of harbour traffic if I do fancy a slow sail through the eye candy.

8. fubar's skins - simply the best.

9. 'slow ahead' telegraph setting adjusted to give 1kt underwater for every boat - to save my life with NYGM.

10.'Lost contact' time changed back to 15mins for the same reason.

All the above are organised with the mod enabler, then I use the tweak programs to adjust T2 range to 5000m, add uncertainty to boat crush depths, and change the boat ranges where appropriate.

Phew! And now I'm considering restoring the deck gun ranges/power back towards the original. NYGM may be realistic, but the rest of it is now so hard I fancy a few easy early war kills on the surface...we'll see...

I agree, GW rules.

I have a dual install now, one GW with sweeter resolution and various fubar skins, and one with stock resolution and GW. (For making vids, as i discovered the reslution fix - not GW, sorry Pants - caused CTD with fraps running)

Well i wont get into the debate over which is the best super mod out there. There are many flavors out there, I think its realy a matter of taste of the player as to which mod is best for them. Both NYGM and GW are great mods, as are many others out there.

Default Me? Customize?

Oh, lets see...

I originally had over forty different mods installed, but so many of them are now included in various supermods...

I'm using the campaign files from GW. NYGM has the wonderful speed-variations but I like GW's version of the Harbour Traffic mod.

I'm using the Sea/Roster files from NYGM, as well as the 'anti-hummingbird' mod and the AI sensor files. I like the new version. GW is promising a completely different type of damage system for their next version. We'll see how it works.

Map files, graphics, sounds, 'realism'; I have so many of those I couldn't begin to say without consulting the list I keep, and unfortunately the list is not with me at the moment. Every time I try a new mod I keep a record, just so I know.

I've had a lot of problems with mods making my game crash. Basically, all the texture packs are installed. I've also got some of the dial mods, the escort fix, and some sounds. So, it's more or less a "stock" game that looks nice and is stable. I've got the fatigue shut off because I feel it isn't balanced well with the snorkel radar-reflection issue.

I hope to hell Ubisoft fixes all these glaring gameplay issues for SH4. I would be absolutely ecstatic if they (literally) just took SH3, fixed all the bugs and realism issues that the community have pointed out, put Japanese textures on the ships and American names on the technology upgrades, and released the game. With no Starforce, mind you.

GW plus a few tweaks to make it more to my liking, like putting contact colors back, setting renown so i get about 500 from a empty patrol at 40% realism, and also setting the time spent in base down a bit so I get more patrols (and more tonnage) in a career

Well before the GW or NYGM mods came out I had my game so modded that I dont think a single file was still in its stock form.I was using the latest RUB mod with about 30+ extra mods or more on top of it and configured to my way of playing.

Now I use the GW mod with a few extra graphics mods added onto it.

@Tycho102: If they make SHIV as real as possible, the 'arcade' gamers wont buy it = UBI loses money, so no they wont make it as real as possible.

I'm like a kid in a candy store when I see all the new mods here. Between that and all the little tweaks I have added to my own setup like a string of voice commands to animate the interior free cam from station to station, skins and almost 3 keyboards full of key commands (shft, ctrl . .etc). Sometimes you just have to stop and dive back into your campaign.

Exactly!!!!

Besides we don't want to put all these wonderful modders here out of buisness now do we.Have to leave something for them to do.
