When I was much younger and a boilermaker, working in a hot, dusty, noisy factory, it was draught beer. By the Schooner. Cold with a nice head. Tooheys Old, the drink for militant Metalworkers, whether on strike or after work.

Later on in the Public Service it was bottle beer, with occasional draught when all the local offices would meet down the pub.

Still later when I worked in Advertising it was wine and bottle beer. And now when I'm "waiting for Godot", it's JW Red Label - smooth and satisfying, and much kinder on the prostate bladder

I know Jim likes Rum, and Big E likes Bottle Beer, and CW likes Cognac ??, but what about the rest of us Subsimmers....."what's yer poison???"

You are right about the dark rum but I also drink a variety of real ale, bottle beers as well as cans.

If I had to choose a current particular favourite it would be Coors.

I like Cognac. Absolutely. I have Hennessy Cognac and others. However, like Jim and d@rk51d3, I also like Rum. Captain Morgan's various types are great. Bacardi is also great. I also have some indigenous Rum from the Bahamas called Don Lorenzo that's fantastic. It's very smooth and has a nice finish. I have Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, Wild Turkey and Old Grandad in my bar. They are pretty old and unopened as I rarely drink. For the holidays, I usually make a couple gallons of Bourbon Slushes for friends and family, when they visit. I haven't made them in a few years, though. Of course, I have to taste my concoctions to see if they are fit for human consumption.

These days, A chilled Mike's Hard Lemonade is very refreshing on a warm day and goes well with dinner and after as well. Mike's hard Lemonade also likes to watch Football and Hockey games with me. I look at my bottle of Mike's hard Lemonade and say, " We are about to make each other very happy." Most of the time, I just drink Ice water, though.

One cup of Coffee, water, and cranberry juice are it for the remainder of my dotage... occasionally, I'll lace the water with Rose's limewater...leftover from my sorely missed vodka gimlet daze.

Ok. Johnny Walker Red Label.....I mean you can get Black Label and now Blue Label....but that's really expensive stuff ( for me anyway ) . I like Red Label....my dad used to drink it, so family tradition maybe

Without getting into medical details here, nowadays I prefer spirits, you get the same "bang for your buck" plus a hell of a lot less liquid for your prostate squeezed bladder to hold. And also I find spirits work better with some medication. No details here cause what works for me might not work for others.

Back to booze.... A neighbour of ours was a Regional Sales Manager ( half the planet ) for a famous Cosmetics company , tall attractive blonde, and she could drink any guy under the table. Oh god...these are funny memories. There was only 2 units on our floor and we had keys to each others units ( as friends do ) , and Miss L used to just barge in half sloshed from work, T shirt and knickers only, cigarette dangling from her lips, ashtray in one hand, bottle of wine in the other, and just plonk herself down on the sofa, whining about work and totally oblivious to what she was interrupting.

I used to like Pusser's Rum (in coffee on the boat), mead, Guinness, whisky, gin, schnapps, Eiswein (when I could get it), cider, a home-made limoncello (made by an Italian friend), the cloudberry Finnish stuff and aquavit. Ooh, aquavit.


Now I'm not a drinker I like the alcohol-free versions when I can get them (the Guinness one is outstanding and the alcohol-free Tanquery gin is really good).


I use drydrinker.com and it's a lifesaver on those Sunday afternoons...


I noticed when I was in Praga a while back, that they had a lot of alcohol-free beers on draught, which were really good.

It seems to have taken a long time perfecting the alcohol-free beers but there are some very satisfying lager-types such as "Perlenbacher" (from LIDL)

I have no idea whether you can get IPA style or dark beers alcohol-free
