Default Towed Array useless?

So I have been lurking on this board for some time now, was a big fan of fast attack, then got out of computer games for a while, then came back and found out about DW, and just yesterday I finnally downloaded the lwAmiz mod, and one thing I've noticed is there seem to be no definite adavantage to the use of the towed arrays now, it seems that the spherical is just as proficent if not more at picking up contacts. I thought the whole purpose of the TA is that it is more sensitve and picks up distant low frequency tonals that the spherical dosn't. Does anyone know the stats on the sensitivity of the towed vs spherical for the mod? I'm just wondering if im just making this up in my head or if the towed array is somewhat worthless with the mod.

That's definately not the design intention.

You are probably confusing BB salience with detection capability.

The TA will detect contacts at MUCH greater range, however, once contacts have been detected on both arrays, the Sphere will show much clearer BB tracks.

This models the real world operation of these arrays: the sphere is designed to pick up BB contacts and display them clearly, and the TA is designed to pick up low frequency NB signals, and as such, the BB display is not as clear as for the sphere.

Create a test scenario with a supertanker at 50nm, 30nm, 15nm, and 5nm. The performance differences between the arrays will be made very clear.

Cheers,
David

Ah-ha. See the broadband threw me. When you look at the BB displays in comparison the TA seems to have twice the background noise, and contact lines dont show up any diffrently, but when you go into narrowband and scroll through the bearings the tonals show up. Tricky. Thanks for setting me staight, I knew you guys must have figured this stuff out better than me, I just couldn't figure out what the deal was. Thanks for setting me straight. Great job by the way. It looks like alot of people out there owe you for your work.
