Default Why upgrade from a VIIB to a VIIC?

Hi

On my 7th patrol (with the GW 1.1 mod), I accidently overheard some of my crew badmouthing the U-51, my trusty Type VIIB boat. According to them the VIIC's are all the rage. But when challenged about their mutinous speech, they fell silent. Even when I threatened to aim them at the next British trawler and flush them through the tubes, they refused to tell me why on earth I should go from a VIIB to a VIIC.

But maybe some of my fellow kaleus here can tell me?

thnx/EoE

Because of 3 seconds less divetime, and more modability.

My VII with my crew can get under in 17-19 secs from the time I hit C button.

IXD2 can crash dive in about 15-20 seconds if your decks are awash

I imagine an VIIC would drop like a rock with its decks awash.

To answer the orginal post:
reasons to go to a VIIC
- faster drive time
- deeper diving
- better AA.

Thanks for the replies. It seems the VIIC has a higher (or would that be lower?) crush depth as well. So I traded in my good ol' VIIB for the C-model. And looked enviously at the C/41 passing me by, as I took her out of Wilhelmshaven.

On a related note: I've been away from SH3 for years, literally, so I had no idea we finally can cruise with decks awash. How does that work? What depth do I have to order?

thnx/EoE

Not years, literally; it's only been out for a year and four months.

Go to Data/Submarine folder for each sub; find the Cfg file and change the Surfacedepth setting so it's deeper than stock. After that you can dive to that depth and it will think you are still surfaced. It's not really 'Decks Awash', since you can't run on batteries, but it's the next best thing.

If you're using NYGM you can just look; it's already done.

Right, feels that way though.

Thanks for the reply about setting surface depths. I haven't fiddled with it yet, but it seems a VIIC with the GW 1.1a mod can run at 7 metres without any major problems. The bow wake seems kinda big though.

Hello there. Well, I've never tried the VIIC, but my good ole VIIB has done me good for 41 patrols and still doing fine.
