After a torpedo detonation the explosion turns into a white dome..Any idea's what could cause that??

If it has a "whooshh-bang" explosion, those are what I call "yin and yang" explosions, or "BnW Pokeman" explosions, since the white is usually swirled with black, like the yin yang symbol. My guess is that those are caused when a projectile of some form hits at a location that does not have a damage sphere associated with it. A LOT of the DD and smaller craft in the game are not completely set-up with them... think of it as the "default" explosion in those cases. They really should be the "background" image, and not in the fore...

You really can't. Not without a bunch of zon file editing on the ships, if that's what the trouble is.
Of course, maybe the game got munged. Have you Saved, exited and come back in and load the Save, then still had the explosions consistently do that? Do you have mod soup maybe? If you did a JSGME snapshot of your game prior to activating any mods, you could use that to see if the base game is OK after de-activating the mods, then put them back in and try the game again.
