I'm busy on my second patrol learning how the simulation is geared. Working the officers and assigning tasks, etc. I removed my officer from the navigation area and put him on deck gun. Shot up a ship. I also forgot to return him back to the navigation station. Well, I'm scooting down the coast of Africa and advised that the we are completely and utterly lost. We have no idea where our boat is on the map, the ocean, the world. My navigator is sleeping or something. I'm advised to keep a officer there and this nonsense won't happen. LOL. I assign the officer. It takes quite a few hours to get our bearings. My uboat icon appears on the map. All is well.

I had same experience a week ago. I also forgot to reactivate gyrocompass after escaping from a corvette and its wasser bombs.

To be fair, I lost the instruction manual on crew management!

Obviously, if you were the kind of person that forgot to man the nav station, you would never get command of a submarine in the first place. But games being games, these little moments of charm that we find as we contort ourselves into the mental state we must be in to suspend disbelief keep the game fresh and remind us that nobody really dies and every step is a learning one!
