Default Michael Owen

Spare a thought for this man .

Who remembers him, at 18, cutting through the Argentinian defence to score an electric goal in the quarter finals of 1998. The following day the worlds sports pages were full of it.

At 26, this World Cup was supposed to be his finest hour. Now a badly damaged knee has abruptly finished it for him.

What chance World Cup 2010 ??

i'll miss him for sure--he is one of a kind really--allways had that knack of confusing defenders and getting past them because he allways looked like he was on the verge of falling over as he ran past - any one else notice that neat tactic--?
see-ing him do his remarkable swerves and dashes in front of the goal and scoring remarkable goal was a treat--

mind you i still hunger for the Lineker Platt Gazza combination --Linekas grins were very infectiuos--now there was a team with heart!

I really feel sorry for Owen, he seems like a really likeable guy.

I do feel sorry for him, it's a bit like rubbing salt in the wounds for ASDA to still use that advert for curry with him in it. He probably spent more time filming that than he has done playing in the premiership this year.

(For those who haven't seen it, he basically shows off his skills in a supermarket, it's a very recent one - done especially for the World Cup.)
