We had removed the distance so that we could involve the player more by having him monitor the enemy ship.

However, to add this back change line 4616 in the en_menu.txt to 4616=Nearest visual contact at bearing %03.0f, range %.0f meters!

Currently it is 4616=Nearest visual contact at bearing %03.0f

Well Kudos!
I did work! I mean i spent my latest patrol more on the bridge than in the Boot! 'specialy when you close to Tommy-Land and need to monitor the trafic of Tommy-boats closely! #

Way back before that, it was just a matter using hight TC and havin the WO call out the distances and accordingly changing the course to avoid them!
I love mods that make the game a challenge! No matter how tiny!

I'm guilty of getting a little too dependant on my WO to tell me the range of other ships. Mainly because it takes so bloody long to calc range using SH3 interface. So this "feature" will certainly have an effect on my playing style......which is not a bad thing.

I just wish there was a quick way of estimating range.....anyone have any tips to share ?

Cheers, Hans

Der Teddy Bar! Would you please help me clarify this, where does the file en_menu.txt located at, and what exactly do I have to type in there to make it work like it used to. in NYGM 1.03 where my WO can see as far as 16k.

I just want to test out how far my WO can see over the horizon, after I installed the Visual update 2.01 patch. Now that the DD AI sensor is very good at detecting the u-boat. I have to detect them first in order to plan what to do next.

Thanks.

He can still see as far as before, that has not changed. That is, the maximum distance he can see is 16k.

The en_menu.txt is located in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Menu

Line 4616 is currently 4616=Nearest visual contact at bearing %03.0f
Change line 4616 to 4616=Nearest visual contact at bearing %03.0f, range %.0f meters!

The visual update did not increase how far your crew can see. It reduced the amount of surface area required to detect something. By doing so, they now detect the ships at a greater distance more often.

Range is very easy to measure though at longer distances has a reasonable chance of a large error.

This might be a good WaW thread?
