Messing around with my AOD campaign today and had forgotten about this great feature of the game; not only can the player call in a wolfpack, but a wolfpack can call in the player to a convoy via BdU.
Had one a few hundred miles south of me that had seven u-boats attacking it that provided beacons for me to intercept it. In contact now, see what happens.

Wow, I've been playing this game for so long and I ignored that. Good finding ![]() Can you remember the message from BDU? Will they actually tell you to join the wolfpack or the convoy? What I remember is: There is a bug when you signal a convoy because the 3-number convoy course you transmit can be way different from the real number and it will mislead all wolfpacks joining you - unless one of them can join you, in which case the others will follow. Your first contact report needs to be mostly accurate...by chance. Greetings, XS |

Re the contact report position bug, I've never found it to be a big problem. I keep sending reports and the other boats join anyway if possible, regardless of incorrect convoy course reports.

The problem with playing AOD is it makes one realize how much SH3 is missing, even when modded.

In which version have you made this discovery, in AOD Dos version or in CAOD (the windows version) ? I guess if it's in the Dos , then it will for sure also play out this way in CAOD (but this could be wrong).
Thanks to clarify this apparent bug with contact reports - maybe it's not a bug, I must re-observe the way I do it, maybe I do it wrong and I must first click the map to enter the correct heading number, I don't know, I will have to try. Quote:
Believe it or not but: I still find the AOD enemy AI much more efficient and frightening than the AI in SH3. I was killed countless times underestimating destroyers ![]() I would give a pile of money to buy the same AOD game but with today's grafics... XS |

It's the cd-rom version of AOD, not CAOD. I never liked CAOD; very buggy. Regarding the contact report bug, no, you're right, it gives the wrong heading in the report. I just meant I've never seen it to be a problem in terms of getting the ai boats to show up anyway. In other words, it's always appeared to me to be a graphical more than actual gameplay bug. Yes, there is no comparison betwen the AOD ai and the SH3 ai, including aircraft too. Use SH3 tactics and attitude in AOD and you'll get sunk every time in AOD. ![]() When I'm submerged under attack in SH3 I just set depth and course, run it at 1x and go do errands, etc. until it's over.
