Snorkel Questions

I get the purpose of a snorkel. From what I read its for emergency engines.

I dont see any options for it, but when I open the Balao cfg it has a option for it listed. Maybe its one of those upgrades? it Aug 1943 in the career.

In any case ...

Whats it used for, and when can I get one?
How is it operated?

The snorkel was added to German u-boats in the later part of the war so they could recharge batteries below the surface. You will not get one in a US sub.

The command for raising & lowering the snorkel is used for lowering & raising the US radar antenna at periscope depth.

I've set up a keystroke command for radar depth (about 15 meters) and separate one for raising & lowering the radar antenna.
