Question: upgrade to type vii from type ii in stock silent hunter 3

Thanks to Steam, I'm able to continue after a 9+ year absence from SH3 GWX when my XP laptop died. My 2010 replacement laptop (Windows 7) which I still use would not load or play my old SH3 CD and GWX discs; so, I tossed them away.

Since retirement, I've started anew with the SH3 stock game from Steam plus SH3 Commander. It does wonderful but not as nicely as GWX.

I've played 9 patrols in my first campaign with a type II and I've earned over 6,000 renown points which I'm saving. What I don't remember is how one upgrades to the Type VII from the Type II in the stock game. I've been to the U-boat page where one uses renown to upgrade equipment but so far no ability to upgrade to Type VII.

Some information or suggestions would be helpful. Would a transfer to another flotilla possibly be helpful?

If you start to early in the game(war) the boat is not available.

Also the 7th is the flotilla that will have Type VII, available around August\September 1940.

I play GWX.

Yes, you can transfer flotillas to get a VII.

This old list by HammFist shows what uboats are available at what flottilas, when and where the flotillas are based.

Thanks for the information on flotillas. Doesn't say if it all applies to the stock game; maybe just the mod.

I'm in April 1940; probably a few months early for the the VIIB. I'll wait and see what happens.
