The real-time adjustable conditions depth scaling is excellent.

My reaction is to seeing the changelog post, Steam updating the version, AND my experience using the new feature which was a quick KF response to player suggestions. Well done.

It's a highly requested feature, but I don't recall any specific posts on this from KF.

I have watche d a lot of Jive Turkey video on cold waters..When in shallow water under 800ft depth why don't you hug the bottom???Get close enough so barnacles won't grow on your hull...Wouldn't that scramble enemy sonar??

"why don't you hug the bottom???Get close enough so barnacles won't grow on your hull...Wouldn't that scramble enemy sonar??"
I have tried it. Two thoughts. 1) Every vessel makes a minimum amount of machine noise even if the screws are stopped. If the searchers are close enough, they will hear your machinery. Nuclear subs (unlike submerged electric) never stop circulating coolant through the reactor. 2) I am not certain KF coded the game in such a way a vessel hull can be completely hidden by ground clutter if pinged at close range by a powerful active sonar. Metal has a lot more reflection than barnacles. Can stillness on the bottom confuse a seeking weapon unaided by nearby wire control with passive and active sonar? Unknown. -Pv- |

Thank you..I think most U.S.subs have special rubber coating that seems to help defeat sonar...

As far as I remember from one of Shipkiller1's posts, it's the air inside the sub that reflects the sonar ping, not the ship's hull. In that case, hugging the bottom wouldn't help. In fact it would make it easier for the enemy to triangulate your pos.

Of the default US subs in the game, none of them have the AnechoicCoating=TRUE. In the MorePlayableSubs mod, the Seawolf has it. So does the Victor3. -Pv- |

One of the craziest but successful ideas was the magnetic noisemaker. The Canadians came up with it to drop on the Soviet subs. Once the magnets got into all the nooks and crannies, the sub would have to go to dry dock and spend countless hours removing panels etc., to get all the buggers. Worth a laugh!
The magnets worked on the Soviets with maddening results. The crews of several Foxtrots were driven bonkers by the noise and returned to port rather than complete their cruises. http://nationalinterest.org/blog/the...omb-them-21477
