Its August 21st! Im expecting 80% partial eclipse of the sun from Maryland. Gonna try to take the day off and break out my 8" reflector and try to grab a few pics.

My wife and I plan to travel down to South Carolina to catch totality. We'll probably go to Columbia, where I was born.

One of my favorite parks is down that way though its closer to the Sumter area. Poinsett State park constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corp. Great for a quiet fall gettaway with the wifey. However many trees to see an eclipse

I'm hoping I live close enough to at least get the effect of totality. I'm about a hundred miles (160km) north.

I'll try, but first I'll have to dig out the wife's old Cannon SLR from the attic. The only camera I have is an old Pentax digital which doesn't have enough zoom to get a good shot.
Come to think of it...I'll have to re-familiarize myself with how to work the SLR. It's been a long time. ![]() AFAIK, I shouldn't need solar film for taking shots of totality. You don't even need to wear those special glasses during that time. |

Many states are preparing for the eclipse like its a natural disaster. Think I'll stick closer to home.

Here is a computer simulation of what the solar eclipse will look like for any area. Just enter your location and it works.
I'll get a little sliver of sun. http://time.com/4882923/total-solar-...p-places-view/
