New to Silent Hunter 5

Hi,

I am completely new to Silent Hunter 5 but I played in the past Silent Hunter 3. The reason I am playing Silent Hunter 5 instead of Silent Hunter 3 is because I have a new gaming laptop and for any reason Silent Hunter 3 crash everytime but Silent Hunter 5 seems that can work in my computer.

Where to start? I have the game in Steam version, says is Gold edition but I don't have any manual installed. I found the manual in Steam, is the best way to understand the basic concepts?

If you are new to SH5 look > > HERE << STEAM is not compatible with the essential application TDW’s Generic File Patcher

If your game was crashing in SH3 when loading then that is a Windows compatibility and is easy to fix.

played all SHs so far, & I'm struggling with 5 as well, don't feel bad. so far, hunting for targets isn't easy.

I play custom difficulty, 88% realism. everything ticked except map contacts. gotta have some sort of point of reference, the best thing about it is using it to plot a contact's course, for the purpose of intercept.

currently on patrol, have to sink 100k with a whopping 11 fish. I will say that @ the beginning, using impact detonators with more success. magnetics are prematurely detonating ... often.

only had the game a few nights now, the stadiometer is still a pain in the stern, especially in rough water. thinking of foregoing it altogether.

Sounds like you are missing some game mods that you would help you.

You need at the very least TDW's NewUI mod in the Stock game.
This will give you access to his Options File Editor Viewer where you can customize your game to what you want to see in your game play.

Not strictly true as you have a time span on each mission and campaign which will allow you to return to base and re-arm.

This is no longer relevant when using one of the mega mods as the broken tonnage bar and campaign icons have been removed from the game.
The game works similarly to SH3 and SH4 with these removed.

Check out my SH5 Tutorilal thread in my signature as there is so much in there which help you to start enjoying your game.
There is no reason why you cannot enjoy SH5 as I and others players do.
