In a Custom Mission i am picking up a Taskforce much'much farther away with a DICASS and DIFAR Buoy than with a VLAD all dropped in the same spot.
Is VLAD only for Shallow areas where there is lots of Ambient noise and not the open ocean? Thanx

Actually its quite the reverse ...
With the 1.03 Patch, VLAD is designed for deep enviroments (in excess of 700ft), for the actual Preset depths see ( http://www.orionwarrior.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=14194 ). It works considerably less good in shallow enviroments or doesnt even work if the depth is not greater then 600ft (for VLAD Shallow) because the buoy ends up in the mud. For Shallow Enviroments, up to 600ft you use DIFAR which is designed to work in Littoral waters. DICASS is after 1.03 kind of a hybrid as you have a very shallow one (90ft) for littoral waters and a considerably deep one (800ft) for the open seas to get below (hopefully) a thermocline. The reason why you get the impression that the Shallow buoys work better in your scenario might well be, because there is a layer and the VLADs which are probably below it, have therefore a hard time opposed to the DIFARs and shallow DICASS which are above the layer. |

Or the VLAD sensors are resting on the bottom of the ocean.
