Default World War II re-enactment

I apologise if this is not the right forum, but was the most appropriate one I could think of.

Back in the SH1 days, there was a community thing where we all re-enacted the WWII pacific campaign. A central authority would hand out boats and missions and we would submit patrol reports when we finished the mission. Promotions, awards and more missions would follow. Being -quite- a long time ago, I disremember what the whole thing was called, but we used the heck out of Hawk's and Kim's SH1 mods to do this.

Anyway, I was wondering if such a thing was still going, or if it had finally faded into the mists of yesterday.

Interesting.

I doubt if it's still going. SH2 and SH3 were both devoted to the U-Boats so they were the Atlantic campaign and the Axis. By the time SH4 came out Sh1 had probably already fallen by the wayside. Anyone running a Pacific, Allied, campaign like this probably ran out of players and abandoned it.

You came to the right place if you want to revive it. I don't know what kind of rules would be involved but I wouldn't mind participating. It would be nice to have a good game moderator who could determine how our success and failure in the missions might impact the war. Then future missions could be designed based on whether or not the Allies were winning in the Pacific. SH4 does not do this, and with good reason. One successful submarine would do little to change the course of the war between two industrialized nations. But a successful or unsuccessful fleet, on the other hand, would definitely have an impact.

Good idea. It has possibilities if handled right. I'd be in.

Are you referring to, "The Pacific Thunder Campaign"? When SH4 came out after one last Campaign with SHCE - SH1, we switched over to SH4 as a platform.

The PTC called itself 'Subron 14' the final two or so campaigns. In total we had approx 10 campaigns. The PTC ended because of lack of interest and not enough members willing to devote time to run the campaign.

If you download the "Guerrilla Submarines Spyron Mod" you can use it to run your own campaign - that's what I do.

It has 15 Entry Points from Dec 41 - Jun 45. Each War Patrol lasts about 3 months using Kim's Tools. It will install over Stock, GFO, RFB, and TMO. It is not compatible with RSRD.

I met lifelong friends including a distant Cousin through the PTC. I do miss the camaraderie. : )

Happy Hunting!

Yes, Pacific Thunder is what I was thinking of. I had hoped it was still running, but completely understand why it finally died. Simulation games seem to be on the decline all round. Flight sim, sub sim, sailing sims, all are going poof.

Anyway, thank you for the information!

It honestly does seem like the simulation craze is settling down into it's somewhat smaller, if more hardcore niche. Hopefully the number of fly-by-night sims will come down to a few very good ones by publishers catering to those hard-core fans that remain. In the meantime, I'll play SH4 and Flight Sim X.
