Default Crew sleeping?

I've noticed that the 3 shifts of my crew doesn't always sleep at the same time. What I mean is that sometimes an entire line will be asleep, except for maybe the deck watch crew. Then later, the deck watch crew will sleep while the rest of that shift is on duty. I was just wondering what governs this? I don't think I've moved crew members from one shift to another. But even if I did, I guess I would expect them to just take up the sleeping time of the rest of that shift?

The individual member's fatigue level governs when they sleep. Normally, an entire off duty shift will be sleeping at the same time. The difference with the deck watch crew could be (just speculating) that you were underwater during a shift change. The deck watch crew, instead of going on duty, just kept sleeping. This changed the wake sleep pattern of that crew.

I often play the Gramaphone or radio for the crew and it really drops fatigue levels.

Too bad there isn't a TMO 2.8 BEER mod...

I think the deck watch crew had other duties whilst submerged. As did the conning tower crew.

That's actually another question I had.... What is the purpose of the gramophone and radio? I assume the gramophone is to affect crew fatigue and morale? What is the radio for?

Thanks!

I ran a mission recently where I took a plastering from a pair of destroyers. I deployed decoys, got below the thermocline and changed course and was able to survive albeit with considerable damage. I had just a few torpedoes left and so, I really wanted to stay in the fight at least to get a couple of final shots in. But I couldn't do much until the crew repaired the damage. I needed to get away from danger so that I could surface, which I did. Two days later, my crew had not even STARTED fixing the damage and many of the crew members were shown to be sleeping.

WOW! I must have really worked them to death.

Entertainment mostly. Keep in mind, crews spent a lot of time at sea. I believe one of Hardegen's patrols was 275 days. Having served in the Navy I can tell you, morale is everything.
