Is it now possible to play Sober Silent Hunter 5 Mega Mod on steam version?

The main problem with the Steam version is that TDW's generic patcher does not work with the Steam sh5.exe. However, apparently a workaround has been found:

Basically, the method described replaces the Steam .exe with the .exe from the 1.2 patch.

This said, I prefer Wolves of Steel over Sober's mega mod -- it is constantly updated, very stable and extremely easy to install and configure:

I can confirm you the workaround posted above works. I suggest you to keep a copy of the .exe file for future clean installations (e.g. updating WoS).

I also suggest you Wolves of Steel, which transforms SH5 from a buggy nice looking game into one of the best simulators ever.
