Default kreeping down the Kiel Kanal -arggh

starting the game again and here I am going at top compression x4 most of the way - it has taken me three real-life days to get three-quarters of the way as my game-time is limited. I thought I had found a tweak or a mod in a previous life that would enable me to careen down there all the way at x32, but cannot find such a mod on my machine now.. looked in SH3 mods, all six pages as well... am I doomed to take a week just to get down the Kanal or is there a cfg or tweak I can apply? GWX Gold of course..?

Kiel Canal Auto Pilot

It's a built - in - feature

oohhh... all these years and I did not know about that.. will investigate. Oh, I see it..I had forgotten about that - prefer to plot my own course usually.. thank you dear heart

it don't enable higher compression though, do it? Still, only 16 KM and I will be at the Kaiser-Wilhelm stretch and can at last get a move on.

I think SH3 won't stop surprising us once in a while...

You'd better not go too fast, the auto pilot should be good for 32x, IIRC

it wouldn't increase to anything above x4 when i tried it just now, down the long pipe bit - maybe because I did not do auto from the start - it plotted a course, but it went over land as well, this time. I will try it on return if I don't get got

Steve might shed some light on it here:

You can use SH3 Commander to change time compression values when close to land... i think the default is 4x, you can increase it to whatever you like... id say 256x or 512x this makes the kiel transit faster but you will have to be careful when operating close to land in other situations

i have used 512X with the preplotted course and never had trouble with it

I used SH3 Commander to set my 'When Near Land' function to 128x. I plot my passage by hand, because I don't trust autopilots, and I plot just a few miles at a time, and pop out to look at the scenery. It still doesn't take more that one hour real time to get through the canal.

With the auto-pilot, be sure to select the correct one. Might be a little embarrassing to hit the bank on the other side on your way out (in front of the send off crowd).
Only did this once, I know which one to click now

Default Kiel Canal Too Slow Woes - Not Any More!

"... am I doomed to take a week just to get down the Kanal or is there a cfg or tweak I can apply?"

NO!!! and YES!!!

> I completely sympathize, and worked on this issue for a while. After much ado, I am now able to run time compression up to 256x through the canal after tweaking TWO separate main.cfg files with the following changes:
LandProximity=4 (or whatever), to
LandProximity=256 (for both)

My TWO main.cfg files were in these locations:
D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 3\data\Cfg
C:\Users\yourcomputrname\Documents\SH3\data\cfg

Um, of course, "Ship Spotted!" is another issue altogether ;-)
Good Luck, and Fair Winds!

Welcome Aboard!

But you're just a bit late. As said, SH3 Commander lets you change those functions with a single click, and no fuss. That, plus its dozens of other functions, make it the single most important tool to use with SH3.

Default Thanks!

Thanks Sailor Steve!
Yes, I read that, about SH3 Commander...I currently have GWX 3.0 installed and I figured a tweak might be a safer solution, as opposed to another MOD install? I am a little afraid to install more stuff! However, I'm sure will be crashing this game soon enough, but I am not looking forward to it!
Take Care, and Happy Hunting!

Welcome to SubSim Boosty.

SH3 Commander is not a mod but a stand alone tool to modify SH3. Once you use it you will wonder how you got along with out it.

As U Crank said, Commander is not a mod at all. It's a tool that lets you control a great many functions from outside the game, and is completely independent of normal mods. It works well with any supermod, or no mods at all.

Would you like to change the deck gun reload speed? The wave height? Other parameters? Would you like for your crew names to be chosen from almost two billion name combinations? Would you like to choose your own patrol grids before the game is loaded? Would you like for the ships you sink to have actual names, cargo listings and crew numbers, including number lost in the attack? Dozens of other features I can't remember off the top of my head?

Give it a try. You'll thank us (and JScones) later.
