Has anyone else noticed the uncanny ability of escorts to see in the rain and unerringly find your boat? Just today it happened to me for what must have been at least the 10th time.
You ambush a convoy in the rain. You find a target, sink it, and dive... soon the escorts leave. When they are about 6000 meters off, in heavy rain, you surface and head off 60º from the convoy track (the convoy's heading is 80º and you are at 140º). Everything is fine for 5 minutes, but then you start taking damage. You see nothing, but order a crash dive. Suddenly the escort is literally on top of you at about 400 meters and on a collision course. It never fails. Note that this is pre-radar. I'm not talking about escorts picking you up on radar and chasing you down. I'm talking about the near-magical ability of escorts to see through rain. |

'Rainy Days'...sounds like a song title.
