Default Perisher mission 'Denmark Strait'

Does anyone know how to complete this? I am always getting counter-detected, even when engines are at all-stop. This is driving me up the wall!

Hello Tango589,
yesterdy afternoon I gave it a go at this mission, I haven't played much because I just spent a little more than half an hour running near the starting point at 4 knots and taking multiple periscope obs at the DDG ship and of course I plotted these obs on the NavMap. My aim is to carefully plot her track and understand her movements, and that's because I need to locate a precise spot for my approach that:
1) will be the fartest from the other (second) ship patrolling the strait.
2) will be roughtly 1 nmi from the DDG and will put me in her baffles (rougthly 120° astern, the ships are pinging) with her going away from me.
Think about where could lie such a point?

Also, I've done the search for you, look at this old thread:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...light=Perisher

Instead, I have another problem with this misison.
Are you able to take more or less precise range estimation with the stadimeter?
I found that even if a pause the game and take estensive time to perfectly (pixel precision) align the waterline with the higher mast top the range estimation is usually 1.8 nmi shorter than the real range (verified with Show Truth, obviously). I wonder if it could have anything to do with the depth of the boat, because in DW you cannot partially raise or extend the periscope, so the height of the periscope above the water is determined by the depth of the boat...

I'm almost certain that subsims very own had a video on the problems with the implementation of the Stadimeter. As far as I can tell myself, the height of the periscope has nothing to do with it.

Still I should probably take a look at the mission myself.

Thank you Relmu, in fact it looks like I should use highest superstructure and not highest mast, according to these threads I found:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...ight=Periscope
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...ight=Periscope
FPSChalzly video was also helpful but for the issue regarding the orthogonal view of the ship you get in the scope VS the projection view of the 3D silouette/model you get to ID and estimate AOB...

Time to take the Perisher exam again!

Well, if you manage to pass the exam, let us know! :-)
P.S.: the two ships are a Duke and a Type42. One of them is a frigate and has got a towed array, the other is a destroyer and she has not one. Have you already thought about a viable way to approach the former?

I think your thinking of mission 1 'Eyes Only', where you have to visually detect 2 destroyers. I'm having trouble with mission 2 'Denmark Strait' where I have to locate and 'sink' a German Type 206 sub with a UUV. It's here that I keep getting counter-detected.

I think I'm just going to have to plot an intercept course, flood the tubes and open the doors well away from him, then wait as quietly as a church mouse that has taken a vow of silence. It seems that even if the Captains goldfish breaks wind, the 206 will hear it and run away!
