Happy Independence Day!

Federal and State authorities raid, fingerprint and photograph Texan secessionist meeting participants.

The last time any states attempted to secede, they got their butts kicked and their cities burned to the ground. I would hate to see that happen to Texas.

They used to(still do I think) have a tourist slogan "Texas it's a whole other country" alluding to the Republic of Texas and also the independent nature of most Texans.

@ Wolferz the Confederate States did not attempt to secede they did secede just the United States refused to recognize them and in end the CSA was unable to draw the war to a victory or any form of positive terms not that they didn't try to.

Have an ancestor on my grandmothers side of the family who was a Texan he fought from 62 to 65 and walked back home from Appomattox,Va to Texas around Austin. Not all at once of course and he stayed at peoples homes along the way but still.

My family ancestors all fought for the CSA either from Va or Tx and one was Union from Ohio I think.

The south didn't lose that war. When the Yanks first showed up, we thought they were after our whisky and women. Upon discovering what they really wanted, we just quit.

I had a distant cousin who died at the Alamo...

One Davey Crockett.

General Lee had the good sense to surrender the forces of the Confederacy before the Union had a chance to commit to any large scale operations in Texas.

In doing so, he spared the Union from embarrassing defeat

I just wished the Texans had followed Sam Houston's advise and stayed out of the war.
