Interesting. The upper pitch does seem to be a whistle instead of tone produced from her vocal cords.

Default "La Petomane"

Those interested in this item might also like to read about m. Joseph Pujol ("La Petomane") 1857-1945 and his remarkable stage act. Apparently he retired in order to open a biscuit factory in Toulon (although Wiki doesn't say whether this was an "air-biscuit" factory). Now if you could achieve THIS as well as polyphonic singing...

Check out Mr Methane as well.

Polyphonic overtone flatulence would truly be an event to see! (nose pegs are optional)

Some people perform even more spectacular (and dangerous) feats with these bodily emissions, it must be said. I have some suspicion that this may lie at the root of some cases of spontaneous human combustion.

Default Gallery of worthies:

I sometimes attend the quiz-night at my in-laws' bowls club. This takes place in a small village hall of the type you might expect to see in an episode of "Dad's Army". On the walls are arranged rows of framed sepia portraits of past chairmen and noteworthy members, all displaying a solemn and quiet dignity befitting their status.

And when looking at them I have sometimes wondered, though it hardly seems possible, "might any of you once have entertained your own families with just such an animated and combustible party-trick?"

Who hasn't, in a moment of levity, ignited their emissions? Guaranteed to entertain the family for hours, especially at the in-laws for (or for the particularly heroic: during) Sunday dinner!

Where are are Armistead and Wolfertz at moments like this? I see we've gone from harmonizing to resonating ...all in one thread!

This once popular family entertainment, often performed by favourite uncles, fell from favour with the advent of the wireless set, when people at home no longer had to make their own entertainment. It had become far more dangerous too, owing to the fashion for soft furnishings.

Imagine the frisson of excitement as Uncle Douglas positioned himself on the chaise longue; his elder brother, no longer the focus of the family's attention, might have been heard to whisper harshly: "Maybe the damned fool will blind himself this time".

Default Great Fires

If you look at Aktung's thread "This date in history", it seems to be dominated this week by stories of catastrophic historical blazes. You can only wonder...
