I had a good laugh at some of these but also felt for them when you consider they are usually always under public scrutiny

Half of them are because of slippery shoes, can't they get proper soles

Two things to notice
1. The men (and the horses) seemed to be slipping because they have metal plates on their shoes and they were walking on smooth hard surfaces. Yeah, they sound great but they are also as slippery as ice at times. 2. After they fell, they immediately resumed their military bearing. That takes discipline. ![]() BTW, I thought that guy did a good job in catching his hat. ![]()

Yep lock your knees and you'll go down like a ton of bricks. Seems like at nearly every formal parade situation I was involved in someone in formation did this. A lot will nearly pass out but catch themselves before they do.
Still good military bearing if you do fall or slip just get up and keep going take it like in stride. Had a buddy in the Air Force who was on the Honor Guard. They used old M1 Garands at this base sometimes they did not always corporate and one would jam during the salute at a funeral. Just had to go through the motions as trying to unjam it looks really bad. |
