Default Hedge Hogs in SHIII?

Do the escorts carry hedgehogs? If they do, when do they start carrying them?

Do you ever read the threads?

People have posted hundreds of screenshots of hedgehogs being fired.

As to when they appear, I've never played past the end of 1940, so all I can say for certain is that the aren't there at that point.

Yes they carry them. Latter part of 1942 is my guess, since that is when they started using them in WW2.

Late 42 to Early 43 seems to be when they start getting them.

To be clear though, the term hedgehog was regarding the launcher, not the charge thrown. It was in the dispersal pattern that made them so dangerous. Several smaller charges in a wide forward arc gave the U-boat few places to 'dash' to, because lets face it, even at 7 knots you aren't running that fast. He sends down 24, 2-5lbs bombs covering your every escape route. And they don't make as much noise, so no asdic or sonor contact is lost. A bad day for the u-boat crew caught in a hedgehog attack, my most feared anti u-boat weapon.

They have carried them since the initial release date of SH3.

In fact, one of the first pre-release videos ever released for SH3 back in 2005(?) shows a destroyer launching hedge hogs.

You're pretty much guaranteed to see them in 1944 on.

However, by the time they get them, you should have homing torpedoes.

If you get into a position where they are able to use the hedgehog against you, you are probably done for.

One strike by those guys might not sink you, but it will force you to rise to 180 meters or more, making you easy pickings for the depth charges.

By 1944 you better have a belly full of homing torpedoes or fire from extreme range at convoys to avoid detection.

Personally I load up with the magical homing torpedoes and goad the escorts into chasing me.
