sinking for no reason
first off i was posting this on the wrong forum (SH3)
![]() anyhow i encountered a few times sinking totaly damaged by unknown means and thus again read following: ok, it happend again, on patrol at Iowa Jima, not moving, time compression up to 125 for about 5 minutes (RL) at periscope depth. Nothing being detected, time compression to x1, i turn on silent running, 1/3 ahead, ping for bottom... over 1000 meter, change depth to 30 m (periscope depth was at 17meters) because i think i would get a better reading for finding ships at 30m depth, as soon i hitted 30meter depth, i take a huge load of damage in superb fast succession (crew start spamming damage reports like insane) and sink, game over camera before i can even act or hit the blow ballast hotkey. ![]() Last edited by Amazigh1337; 04-30-14 at 08:01 PM. What mods are you using? Stock has a few mines, TMO adds whole minefields. Is there any hull damage? If there is enough, then you can't dive at all.

the one and only mod i'm using = "Green lights" so that the pressed buttons turn green insted of the standard buttons. so i can actualy see if i got silent running on or off (for example), no hull damage as far as i know, all seemd to be in order appart from quite empty torpedo tubes.
running SH4 1.4 (getting 1.5 tomorrow aftrer a good sleep) |

I'm gonna say mines, the things I fear almost more than anything (the things I fear most in SH4 are those tiny little islands that only show up on the navmap when zoomed in REALLY far, just drove into another one earlier today).
They tend to be few and far between, but will utterly ruin your day if you find 'em.

mines or a subnet ... subnets will kill you quickly.

Another possibility is airplanes. They can easily see a submerged boat that is at 30 meters depth.

its either planes or a spy onboard or some bug somewhere, mines or anti-subnets (haven't encountered nets appart from SH3 yet so far tho) are attached to the bottom and since the bottom is over 1000 depth, thats quite unlikely.
planes still doubtfull tho, sice 40 seconds before i dived from periscope depth to 30m depth, i was with periscope and thus also Radar active, and nothing was seen on radar by any of my officers (i still play on "easy"-custom settings, need to get back into the game before the real deal :-) ) |

I don't think there has ever been a bug of your sub dying, simply, something killed you..

I had an incidence where, I thought my crippled sub was maintaining depth of around 140ft and went into time compression..... Alas, and being completely surprised, she had hit 500ft and thus... Was crushed to death. Needless to say, there was much gnashing of teeth at this occurrence. I calmed down a bit after thinking through the likely chain of events.... Granted, I don't know the status of your boat when yours too met its fate, but it's possible that it met it's test like mine... And similarly, failed it.

I was avoiding some British escorts the other day and upon diving to safety promptly hit a mine which was part of a mine field I never knew was there. I had to surface to save the crew and got pummeled until the boat sank but I kept the deck gun going on the two escorts until the crew got off .... and I sank with the boat and with one escort.
