The Brits
The way they manage to portray Romans every single time, such as in the HBO-hitseries 'Rome' is so downright admirable I simply believe I am looking at Rome in G.J. Caesar's day and age, never mind the English lingo. How do they achieve this so gloriously ? I am almost considering buying Rome: Total War, plus addons ![]() Not many movies do that to me, with the exception of a few. Top of the list ofcourse for always being the unbeattable Das Boot. These few top movie experiences add a certain quality to life, for which I am grateful (Sixpack sure knows good drama ![]() my 0,02 eurocents Anyway, I hope to see many more historical themes reenacted by Brits. PS (*) In case you wondered: Hunt for Red October probably being USA's best movie for me ![]() |

S!
Well, in all sincerity I should have added I had played the demo straight after its release, and was very impressed. But micromanagement isnt 100% my thing. I am and always will be a sucker for the first person view/experience which keeps me busy whenever time allows. But watching those battles unfold in RTW was inpressive. So maybe I am going to buy it anyway (the double box; with Barbarians). I had a classical training fo 6 years (Latin and Greek classes) as a teenager and HBO's Rome brought back memories and inspiration. R:TW would have been extra awesome though, if they had included a real first person view. Do you know of a sequel in the making perhaps ? |

P.S. Another Brit actors favorite of mine is 'the Bounty'. In fact my nr. 2 right after Das Boot. Never mind the silly love story (nice gal though) and M. Gibson. The acting of Sir A. Hopkins as Captain Bligh and many of the other Brit crew never gets boring. Quite a performance indeed, wouldn't you say ?

It's certainly my favorite version of the Bounty story; and I have no problem with Mel's performance in the movie at all.

O joy:
'I Claudius' on DVD for only 4,99 in one store here where live. Remember that one ? Gon....na pi.... pi.....pickitup to... to..... morrow..... ![]() Great series that was. Great Brit-Roman acting. Lots of intrigue and poisoning and stuff. Not so much violence alas, if any, if I recall correctly. Wonder how it'll look like after all those years and Rome. |

I have a copy of I, Claudius, and it looks great, despite being filmed on a very low budget. For storytelling, I think it's still the best.
On the other hand, I haven't been able to see Rome yet. |

I have the 'I Claudius' 670 minutes dvd here now. After this I will watch episode 1.
I watched a big part of the series (weekly) on TV back in 76/77 I think it was. I was a kid and utterly impressed. It's still a tremendously popular series it appears. I did a tour on the net and it even get higher marks than the flatout awesome Rome. ![]() |

Ave, all !
I know you're all anxiously awaiting my first impressions with the 4,99 euro "I Claudius" dvd, so here it is at this late hour. I watched episodes 1 and 2 and strictly based on these 2 parts, and I hope I dont speak in haste now, which only the next 11 episodes will tell, but some things are better left for what they really are. Great memories, that is ![]() But okay, it is downright amusing in a British way. The guy who plays Augustus cracks me up. All in all it's not nearly as impressive as "Rome" though. |

I can't believe you're talking about British representations of Rome and you've not mentioned the classic Up Pompeii
