What tools do I need to edit 3D modes

Question for all the expert modders out there. If I want to edit some 3D models used in SH4, and I don't want to spend huge amounts of money on software, what tools/programs do I need to create/edit 3D modes?

The easiest free program I've used is Misfit.
http://www.misfitcode.com/misfitmodel3d/

Others like Wings3D or Blender.
I find both a bit tough to learn where Misfit is more like any other Windows program.
