Default Please don't flay me but I'm going to ask a very stupid question!

Hello everybody! I decided to cave in and purchase SH5 over the weekend and whilst following the procedure to get it working with all the lovely mods I seem to have encountered a bit of a snag.

I looked around the forums and did find someone apparently suffering the same issue but only they posted in their thread and it seemed they resolved it :/.

Basically, when I set uPlay in the offline mode I find myself seemingly unable to launch the game. A grey box simply pops up saying "Thank you for playing Silent Hunter (blah blah)" with a bit of information about time played.

Can anyone enlighten me as to how to solve this issue? Any help would be enormously appreciated!

Hello Sober!

As of my first attempt at playing the game in offline mod I'd only installed the TDW Generic Patcher.

Currently I'm in the process of setting up your wonderful mod compilation though .

Just curious here for testing purposes:

download the newest version of my Generic Patcher app (v1.0.116.0). Enable the SH5 Disable Uplay browser patch. See if you can play a single mission or not

I did that and it seems that allows me to launch the game and play a single mission!

It's midnight here in blighty so I've got to dash off but I really appreciate your help and your hard work in general!

That just simply says that there's no problem with your SH5 installation. You still have to figure out why the UPlay is giving you problems. That Disable Uplay browser patch will NOT update campaign progress (game copy protection) thus it's only good for testing purposes of the campaign or playing single missions (without UPlay holding you up!)

I just wanted to say WELCOME ABOARD!

And that's not a stupid question at all. Lots of people have problems with that, as well as other aspects of all games. The only way to find out what others have learned is to ask.

Hi and welcome mate!
Try to set the compatability mode to Windows 7 in .exe file (in case you have another OS - set compatability to the related one)

Tried that - unfortunately no joy!

Thanks for your help though .

Just to confirm that I'm not being more stupid than usual - I do still launch the game via the .exe in the Silent Hunter 5 folder right?

Hmmm, that's weird 'cos yesterday I wrote about the same problem on my computer and setting compatability mode helped me

Try to fully reinstall the game (clean the registry, any savegames folder etc.) and launch it in online mode for the 1st time. Maybe some files were corrupted when it tried to patch the game and UPlay Also try setting different compatability modes (Windows 7, Vista etc.)

Hope it helps!

P.S. Yes u can launch the game with the .exe file from the main folder

Hello LMD!

I'm you at least seemed to find a solution to your problem but unfortunately it seems that a fresh install of the game and setting the compatibility mode to Win 7 hasn't got rid of my problem.

I don't suppose that you (or anybody else!) might have any kind suggestions?

P.S.

Thanks to everybody for being so kind and friendly - I envisioned getting ripped to shreds by a gang of psychopathic and unshaven submariners - I suppose that only happens on weekends eh?

In addition to setting the compatibility to Win7 for the SH5 .exe you might also want to try checking the box at the bottom of that tab to run program as an administrator.

Welcome aboard, coolicus! Shaving is optional, weekends or no, but Neal and the gang generally keep the psychopaths locked in a comfy padded room until their medication starts working. That's one of the joys of this forum, and IMO one of the things that have kept it going for so long.
