Realistic Torpedo Speed

I seem to recall hearing that the realistic setting for the g7 is only slow or medium, that the high speed setting was only for surface ships. Does anyone recall if this is accurate?

This should help a little.

I think you're thinking of the G7a (steam propulsion). According to some sources the highest speed setting was indeed only available for surface ships.

NavWeaps also agrees, but apparently for different reasons. According to them the high setting was troublesome for the torpedo itself, and not used at all until 1944, by which time u-boats were no longer using the G7a.

yeah i read recently that g7a was used on submarines only with slow or medium setting. The fast (which only provides 4 additional knots IIRC) was to be used only by Torpedoboats.
