Default Visit to XXI Wilhelm Bauer

Yesterday I visited the Wilhelm Bauer in Bremerhaven. Unfortunately it was still closed though so you couldn't go inside the sub, but there was also the schifffahrtmuseum to visit and the weather was pretty good.

Some things to mention when you guys are planning to go over there:

Dont visit the mediterana complex, it's sort of a big shopping mall with some restaurants. Waste of time to go inside, it's great for the wife (and kids maybe), don't give her too much money too spend . Sitting outside drinking a couple beers isn't a bad idea at all though.

The restaurant inside the schifffahrt is the place to go to. It's called 'panorama cafe weserblick'', it's really very nice.

Alright some pics, more to follow:

Nice one but a few more photos would have been nice.

Very nice pics Vince. It's a shame it was closed. I have had that on my "to-do" list for years, and my fingers are crossed that next year will be the year.

Can't wait to see any more pics you may have.

Got to be one of the best I got, Jimbuna. I'll post some more. All of paintings they had on display (I was allowed to take those pictures as long as I wouldn't use flash).

It would be a nice visit, though as far I can read the restoration could not undo many of the changes done in the postwar refits, such as the full diesel electric drive, the removal of two torpedo tubes and so on.

That's true but the museum tells you that the WW2 design of the XXI influenced sub designs after the WW2 in a big way. The focus of the museum isn't type XXI during the war.

More pics, the quality not that great, but I still got to post them right.

Aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin

Only aircraft carrier launched by the kriegsmarine, but it was never completed and not operational. After the war she captured by the Russians. In 1947 they decided to sink her. Hit by 24 bombs and projectiles she was still afloat and had to be finished off by two torpedoes.

Default Sailing ships, sonar console and enigma

Suete Deern

Was build as 4 mast schooner with a length of 54,4m, but was converted to a barque ('38-'39) by Blohm & Voss. She is almost a 100 years old and belongs to the museum.
