Default Flashing colours then lockout

Recent problem with SH3. Currently on 10th patrol out of Kiel.

Screen breaks up into flashing coloured sections and I can't use any keys/mouse commands. It appeared after I'd panned round on Shift/F4 view on the way out of the base. I can Escape to closing screen, but flashing persists and I have to switch off the computer.

Everything OK up to now. Sorry, but I've done a search and can't find anything about this.

Asus P4P800
Pentium P4 2.6
1Gb DDR SDRAM (Generic/Kingston mix)
ATI Radeon 9600SE 128Mb with latest drivers

Did this happen only once? If so, ignore it. If not maybe the card is overheating (check if the fan is running correctly, clean the fan, don´t overclock the card), or maybe your card is about to die. Try some other games or let 3DMark05 run for a while.

I was experienced some flashing textures and solve it droop down muy Core and Memory video card frecuencies a little, about 10 MHz.

Did you overclocked your card ?

Sounds like youre getting artifacts. This is a sign of an overheating videocard many times.

Agree, any way, in my case, initially i soupose it was due to overheating, but not, just was needed to reduce a little bit the frecuency.

I made the check for artifacts, and the check let me to run the card with no artifact at very higest frecuencies, but in SH3, ONLY in Sh3, i need to reduce the factory settings a little bit to have not artifacts.

Extrange, but happens only in SH3.......

I thought I was teh only one that experienced this paradox -

I can OC my card benchmark it ok, run artifact tester with ATi Tray Tools no problems, Run other games for hours, done burn ins with Sandra - nada, nothing, not a blink or whimper.

I play SH3/SH3commander/IUb and even though temp not exceed 47 to 48 I get artifacts.

I thought maybe it was my drivers - currently using Omega set (untweaked) 3.8.205 based on 6.1 ATi on a X800XT PE card...

Any chance some issue with the game itself and not our cards/systems?

Same video card here, Wolfram......

I solve it droop down Core and Memory frecuencies

Core 520 to 510

Memory 560 to 550

and problem was solved.

My test give me i can run the card with no ertifacts up to 545/585 if i dont remember bad....... but in SH3 it was not posible, even at default settings i get artifacts and was enforced to reduce frecuencies.

Try that.....

:hmm: Underclock?

Yes I understand the concept; it is just that I have never done that.

My artifacts are not always consistent but do seem most likely to happen around sunset with heavy clouds and choppy seas.

One time I surfaced to watch a storm that had just passed over at sunset and I had definite artifacts (mega-triangulated pixels) that lasted even after a GPU cool down and reboot.

thanks for the advice....

Same here, i was having giant triangles...they seems to be "tiggered" by some textures and remain attached to them.

Try underclocking a little bit...... with my underclock ammount i cant note any in FPS.

Look at this.....

http://subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.ph...ti+x800+series

Remember our video card it is souposed to be an X800 XT wich pass a high quality test and then it can be "overclocked" in factory, to be an XT PE.

May be ATI looks at side when do the tests ...... :hmm:

OK I try to lower the cycles on the GPU a little sometime...

Make sure you have 'Syncranization' on in video settings.

Check that first

Ironically the Shorts Sunderland is code letter U of No. 461 Squadron,

Ran it last night with synchronization on...never even realized it was off, does seem to give me a bit of improved image quality.

If I run into the triangulated pixels or any artifacts will crank down the gpu from the stock speeds.

If i am not wrong, the matter with Vertical Sinchonization, is the game will generate entire submultiples of your refresh rate.

If you have 60 Hz refresh rate, the game will generate in example 10, 15, 20, 30, 60....... if i am not wrong, if your game droops down 60, it sudently will jump to 30, and if it droops down to 30, it will jump to 20, and you note some cuts in the image, but may be it can release the video card from some job.

Any body with good knows about it ?
