pumped quite some hours into CivV and recently acquired Gods and Kings for it, but have yet to touch the new content the expansion has to offer.

Been a CIV4 BTS player for a while now, and reading the message boards, as I've been doing some light modding, I got the feeling a lot of player aren't happy with the changes CV brought?

Comments?

I have honestly never played civ 4, Civ V is my first. I like it though. Its got a nice style, I enjoy the combat (They say they removed unit stacking which adds more depth to combat, in which I agree, you have to plan out flanks accordingly) The big gripe seemed to be that they didnt have religion in it to begin with, but with Gods and Kings the expansion added it back in. All in all so far I like it. I enjoy the way the other states interact with you, I could only imagine how awesome multiplay would be

I got Civ5 free with xcom from steam and have put a good few hours into it.
I also have read some reports that Civ4 users are not happy with some of the changes. Perhaps patches and/or Gods and Kings fixed some of these issues.

I missed civ4 for the most part so watched some lets plays to get the basics for Civ5. See here:-

Thanks Trevally! Im actually getting it down quite well now. The basics at least, Im just trying to dominate the indians right now seeing as how they keep denouncing me. So I built up an army and steamrolled his two cities I wanted, he wanted peace and offered a deal, I told him to give me the two cities and he said sure. Except, I wanted one other and he wasnt too keen about it.. looks like its time to roll over him in ten turns

ITs a slow game to start but man I love it. I can imagine the type of depth that would go into online!

Due to some screw-up on their/Valve's end I have a Steam copy of Civ 4 (four) to give away. Any takers?

I have been a huge fan of the CIV series ever since CIV1. Awesome games.

I liked some of the changes incorporated in CIV5. Every edition of the CIV series incorporated changes I liked and disliked so I can't fault the programmers. What I did not like was how changes would be made and automatically updated on my computer. I never figured out how to turn those off.

Is there a way to play CIV5 completely isolated from the Internets Tubes? I often wanted to play a quick CIV5 game on my laptop, but never seemed to be able to.

Is there any way, even if I buy the disks, that I can get away from Steam? I have had such bad experiences with Steam and their wonderful customer support that I really don't want to do business with them.

At least my CIV4 works and works well.

Aaand gone.

Not sure about the getting away from Steam thing. Think Civ 5 actually requires it, with the whole integration thing of the workshop and such.

You can disable the auto-update, but I think it will still tell you that an update is required if you leave Steam online and an update is released. Might have better luck starting Steam offline and leaving it like that, but I haven't had much experience with that.

I've played a lot of civilization on a large touch screen. Best use of touchscreen gaming ever
