I had a circle run earlier. I was firing at escorts out of the stern tubes and as I was diving, a torpedo ran right over my bow. It was a close one. Turns out, I had messed up the TDC Settings and it ran in almost a circle and I had sailed into it....again.

Thank God it missed. I was passing 90 feet when it went over me.

I don't see how this could result from any error on your part; there is a maximum gyro angle the torps will go (about 135 deg. for the Mk 14, I think).

I was zig zagging at ahead flank to get away and the next thing I knew a torpedo went by. Not sure how...but it happened. I'm just guessing on the TDC fault. I THINK that's what happened...

I'm not trying to beat this into the ground, but you said you were passing 90 ft. which means you were submerged. That being the case, even at flank, your speed would not be nearly as fast as a torpedo. I think you had a Close Encounter of the CR Kind.

What is that?

It was on my first boat with the USS Sturgeon. All I know is...in war...$#*% happens. I don't know how.... But it happened.

(This is my 1001st post.)

Admit it Steve, it doesn't really bother you. When else can you take out your scary pirate head?
