Default (NYGM) IXD2 keeps slowly sinking.

Hello all.

I'm use to playing GWX, but I read so many great things about NYGM that I had to give it a try!

However, in NYGM my IDX2 boat, at slower speeds, slowly sinks. When I increase speed to full or flank speed, then the boat will rise to whatever meter I designate. I'm just curious if this behavior is normal is all. I can adapt to it no problem.

Welcome to SubSim Daughter of 84!

Well, I use GWX .... so on NYGM I can not answer for, but it does not sound unlikely

WELCOME ABOARD!

In NYGM all boats will start to sink at very slow speeds. This is because it was very difficult to get perfect balance, so the boats couldn't actually 'hover' like they can in the stock game. They had to be moving fast enough for the dive planes to work. It's a delicate balance - too fast and you're noisy, too slow and you sink. Or rise. Bad news either way.

That's interesting to know. I always thought that u-boats could move air around to achieve balance so they could hover.

Thanks for the answer!

Modern submariners pride themselves on being able to do that, but they have computer controls to help. A WW2 submarine might be able to do it given enough time, but they would actually have to pump water back and forth between trim tanks, and that itself creates more noise than running at three or four knots does. It's a tough call.

Back in the days of Aces Of The Deep you could only stay at silent running for so long before your LI said "Unable to maintain depth without running pumps!" That game is now considered primitive, but it had some AI routines that still haven't been matched.

Also, by your screen name I guess you're female? If so, and if you want, the site's owner will give you a custom avatar, or you can send him one he'll put up for you, plus a title. It cost's us guys, but the gals get one for free.

Also, if you have enough time and will I strongly recommend you to read manual from NYGM.

There is pretty good explain reasons for that and other things in the game with that mod.
