Default Old Wolf returns

Hi all, its been a few years since I took off my captains hat and docked my u boat for the last time. However like all things you love, youll always go back for more and so i find myself back at subsim and hunting for my copies of SH.

A few questions id like to ask.

With the (at the time of release) SH5 failure and most people resorting back to SH3 for the real subsim experience, have things actually changed? Is SH5 now a viable subsim experience? Has RFB or similar mod been created to polish the gorgeous SH5 graphics with actually decent gameplay?

Im all for getting SH3 and RFB on my computer, and sinking some ships always loved that and always will but has SH3 with RFB been superceeded?

Opinions greatly appreciated

Auf

SH3/4 pales in comparison to SH5 patched and modded And SH5 is still improving

unlike IL2 the flight sim where the mods are all packaged, HSFX or UP3, here we deal with mod soups. you could go for an all inclsusive like open horizons (OH) or just have a collection of mods (hence the name mod soup). i went with the soup and if you check out sobers thread for his mod soup that would be a guide. ive seen lists with 50 mods or just a few. u basically get what u like and dump what your dont.

heres sobers list,

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...192374&page=33

scroll down a bit, he also provies links. what a nice guy.

Unbiased opinion here.

TheDarkWraith has done some fine work with SH5.

My opinion for must have mods to make the gameplay worth your time are:

German U-Boat Crew Language Pack
Real Environment - Revision_3
FX_Update_0_0_18_ByTheDarkWraith
NewUIs_TDC_6_9_0_ByTheDarkWraith
IRAI_0_0_30_ByTheDarkWraith
IRAI_0_0_30_No_hydrophone_on_surface_No_Aircraft_s potting
NewUIs_TDC_6_9_0_New_radio_messages_German
TheDarkWraith_DC_Water_Disturbances_v2_0_SH5
NewUIs_TDC_6_9_0_Real_Navigation
U-boat Historical Specifications 1.7 for TDW Mods
OPEN HORIZONS II_full v1.6

Now keep in mind that this would be the bare minimum mod list I would recommend in order to get a realistic and enjoyable gaming experience.

Try Sobers mega mod - pita to get started with but so worth it.

I also agree that TDW has done so much for SH5 (btw TDW, how is SH6 progressing? )

Ahoy Aufklarer,
My best advise is to get a DVD copy of the game. There are many mods incompatable with the steam version. All of the new patches that have just come out from The Dark Wraith are incompatable with Steam as well. You may be missing out in the long run. This is what I would do anyway.
Hope you get this resolved.

dvd option?

Steam version won't work with the mods, went down that road at first, foolishly. It may be hard to find a dvd copy, it was for me. I just did the download from UBISOFT directly and paid the $6.00 option for them to send me a backup disc in the mail. Little expensive, all in. But the disc helps immensely, I had to uninstall and install a few times to get all the mods to work. No trouble with the mods I'm just an idiot. Sober's list is absolutely the way to go. I've got most of the mods, 64 if memory serves. Blew my mind when I got into the game. Much respect to TDW, sober, The Beast, Trevally, stoiamn, and the list goes on. Hope I helped a little.
