I recently got back into SHIII. I installed a clean version, patched it, and installed the latest version of RuB. I'm also using the latest version of Commander.
It's working wonderfully, except for a little map glitch. If, say, I have a ship in plain sight, its contact square shows up on the map. However, when I zoom in, the contact completely disappears as soon as I reach the first level of zoom where the protractor pops up. This is making it hard to line things up. If I want to use the protractor, I have to zoom out, mark where the contact is, and then zoom back in. It's an ungainly process that I'd very much like to avoid. It's like there's something glitchy with the contact and/or protractor modifications. Or something. Any suggestions? |

This is not a bug, it is a "realism" characteristic of RUB, same as the dotted line that replaces the usual continuous line to mark your sonar contacts in the chart
![]() I didn't like this feature of RUB either, so I removed it, but you need to do it prior to installing RUB or you would have to replace it with the standard files of SH3 which can be a PITA What you need to do is unzip RUB to an empty folder, then go to "Data/Sea" and open all folders there to delete in each one the TGA file whose name ends with "_shp" That file is the TGA graphic for the icon in the map you see at max zoom, and RUB replaces it with an empty one. That's why you don't see the silhouette anymore at max zoom. If you delete all before installing RUB you prevent it from overwriting the stock SH3 files and will still see the ship silhouettes. BUT NOTE!!!! There are some new ships added in RUB (Like the hospital ship or the southampton cruiser) and in those ones you should replace the _shp file with a _shp of a ship with a similar silhouette and not delete it, because as SH3 does not have those ships, simply deleting the _shp file would cause an error!!! Better check first in SH3/data/sea folder which units are there and compare with RUB Good hunting ![]()
