Default The football euro tournament thread

It's once again about to start. Place your bets here.

I have no clue this time whom I should see as favourites.

German team has shown great potential, and is seen by many as the top favourite this time. On paper, their setup is almost optimal on every position, with optimal setups for second lineups as well. But I am not sure, the preparation was not running optimal, it seems to me. There are some weaknesses in the team. The Bavarian players suffered a triple moral KO this season, with their unfortunate defeat in the Champions League being a real soul killer. Let'S see if they can forget it, or get effected by it.

Could be that Germany enters the main round. Could very well be. But I do not share the blind enthusiasm there is. I also see a solid chance that they already fail in the first round. Indeed I rate the chances of advancing to the next round only 55:45 or 60:40.

Really, have no clue on what to think of the Germans, or the other teams this time. But I have Holland on my list. Not sure about Spain and Portugal. England - no, not this time, I think. France - so-la-la. Italy - well. Do they play or withdraw?

Saw a documentary of corruption in sport bets recently. I knew it was bad, but not that it was THAT bad. The yearly total being moved is estmated in the range of minimum 200 billion, maximum 2 trillion. Major football matches probbaly do not get manipulated, thoiugh, because too many cameras film the match and too easily unwanted evidence could get recorded. It is a giant money washing machine for the organised crime and corrupt business.

Germany

This time it's time to beat those pesky Spanish, would be an appropriate revenge for 2010 and 2008.

I think overall Löw showed a good hand in building up a fresh team, which learned to play together. I still see much enthusiasm with them, the will to kick ass and finally win a title is definitely there.

Everyone in England is saying we've no expectations this time round so there is no pressure.

If there is no pressure then I expect them to do well.

But that is again pressure!

Sod it. Quarter-finals against the eventual winners, penalties. Has a nice, familiar ring to it.

Here in Denmark, there are not so many who expect that the Danish national team will proceed from the initial round. So if the-got kicked out, the Danes will not be disappointed. Should they on other hand, proceed then you can count on EM-fever will increase

The newspapers have already predicted the outcome of Denmark's matches

Germany = zero point / one point
Holland = Zero point / one point
Portugal = three points

Paul the octopus meanwhile has died, but Yvonne the cow hopes to channel him.

Germany, I think. Spain remain a good side, but I suspect the bubble might have burst. I'm supporting Italy myself, but they are mired in so much rubbish just now I don't know if they will even qualify from the group.

And England.....I don't know why but I just have this feeling that if it isn't Germany it will be England.

It is often said and I agree that Holland are the best team never to have won the world cup so I hope they win.

If not then I believe it will be Spain or Germany.

I don't give England much chance at all and frankly wouldn't be suprised if they fail to get to the knockout stage.

There is a certain national tv selling company who are offering a £10 refund to people who purchase a tv for each goal England scores during the tournament...that just about sums it up for me.

And that's why I've got this feeling about them...there's been this weird malaise about England in the media and in the public...I can't explain it. Is it the new manager, is it the Terry/Ferdinand thing? I don't know, All I know is with the relative lack of expectations - the least I remember, in fact - they might just get to the final, and then it's anyones guess.

More chance of Scotland reaching the knockout stages of a world cup

Do not know how things stand with your newspaper and its sports section. according to the Swedish newspapers' sports section, they may as well give the trophy to Sweden. The same is also the case in the Danish newspapers
