Default SH3 on minimal requirements??

Has anybody tried to run SH3 on a system with minimal requirements?
I have a laptop I use in the field that runs on:
1.4 PIII w/ 512 RAM
64 meg video card
On the SH3 box it says that this is the minimum you can have to run this game. I know I won't be able to max out graphics, shadows or anything like that. I only want it so I can practice using the TDC to improve my firing. I probably won't ever using anything more than single mission or training on my laptop, saving the larger campaigns for my much faster system at home.

I was gonna say try and spend some cash on a graphics card 128mb, but you have a faster system at home. It will run with everything on low and have nothing running in the background. Also expect the odd frustration. The 64 card is gonna be the bottleneck.

The 512RAM is also going to be trouble for you... but yes, the 64mb card will be the bottleneck.

Upgrading isn't an option. Laptops cost way to much to have upgraded.
I'll give it try anyway.

Good gameplay here with a 2400+ 512mb and a Gf6600 gt 128 ddr3

well except for a bit long reloading time for the low ram,and some little stutter in explosions at close range with external camera,

I was forced to run SH3 on a 900 MHz Athlon with 768MB of memory and a 64MB vid card(my back up system). While it was slow to load and choppy during explosions as mentioned, it was still playable.

"Sony Vaio A-197VP". I use this laptop and have no major problems. Explosions are the main issue, but to be honest its not a major one.

Hunter, I tried to install and run SHIII on a Compaq desktop with P1.9ghz, 768mb DDR RAM and a GF MX420 64mb card. No go, it will not install either as it tells the system requirements have not been met. If I could use a better GF card of the FX series it would probably run fine.

But seeing this is a propriatarty PC I don't think I could upgrade the 220watt PSU for the card to work. I did call Compaq tho and they said I couldn't upgrade the PSU... which sounds strange. And I told them I'd never buy one of thier PCs again. Someday I'm going to try tho. No sence letting it collect dust in the corner.

BTW, you do need a PSU of at least 300 to 350watts to run a graphics card with a fan on it in a computer. The bigger the card and fan the more watts you might need.

SH3 will not work on Nvidia MX cards.

That 64MB card requirement really means pixel shader v1.2 (i think). You'll have to see what your onboard chip is, but it might very well be an Intel chip with shared memory. Probably doesn't even have a pixel shader on it.

When I moved up from a 5950 Ultra to a 6800 GT, I got an enormous boost in framerates. On the nav map, alone. I think the nav map jumped 50%, and the open seas jumped 25%. The sub pens went from maybe 24fps to a little over 30fps.

I tried Sh3 on my laptop

IBM T42
1,8Ghz Centrino
1 Gb ram
ATI 64 Mb card

Worked OK. Choppy during explosions and when the periscope came out of the water.

Im gonna upgrade my gaming at home to
AMD 64 3200+(2.0Ghz) OCed to 2,7 Ghz!
ATi X850 XT PE 256 Mb

Yummi!!
