While you have a point, the letter purports to be from one girl, not "The Right." Also, is the point not valid? A diatribe against "the other side" doesn't answer that problem.

August's point is also valid. While you may be correct about Women's Rights issues, the left has no leg to stand on at all in comments about political grandstanding.

Sorry, but coming from you that sounds like just another case of marching in lockstep with your party.

I like ducimus' idea. That way, after all the wingers are dead, the moderates can step in and clean up.
Same here. The way I figure it, say about 15% of the voting citizens are far right wing and 15% are far left wing; that leaves about 70% of us who don't give a monkey's about what Limbaugh or Maher have to say. We are kind of like the politcal equivalent of what the "99%" faction is to economics. If we 70% would just ditch the "rubberstamp" adherence to pure party political allegiances and really just think for ourselves, things might get done. I've always said you're probably doing a good job in politics if you have both extremes angry at you...

The point may be valid, but the sincerity of the motives behind the person making it become the issue. Palin's only using this as a pretext for an attack on the other political side and for that reason makes the whole thing ring hollow and insincere. In other words, a buncha bullcrap.

And for the record, I don't stand behind Maher's comments, I find them to be in poor taste, I think it adds nothing to the national dialogue and he should take his misogynistic views and stick 'em where the sun don't shine. I don't make excuses for him like Sarah Palin did with Limbaugh. See, as I said before, that's being consistent. That's upholding a principle because it's the right thing to do, not because it's a tool that's politically expedient.

I'll give you that, but I couldn't resist pointing out the political hypocrisy.

I see, Maher was just defending womens rights when he made fun of Palins kid that has Downs syndrome.

The left aren't the ones trying to gut women's health programs. The left aren't the ones trying to shut down Planned Parenthood. The left aren't the ones trying to make birth control harder to get. The left aren't the ones advocating the removal of a women's right to choose what goes on in her own body. The left aren't the ones passing laws that force women to go through invasive, unnecessary and degrading medical procedures prior to having a legal abortion. The left aren't the ones who want to force women to bear a rapist's child.
None of that, even if was accurate, justifies making foul sexist and racist comments on national TV. In fact it pretty well illustrates the lefts willingness to justify any hypocrisy no matter how blatant as long as it's aimed at the opposition.

At least ground your attacks somewhere in the realm of reality, man.
My attack? Dude, *i'm* not the one on network TV making racist and sexist remarks, nor am I the one giving a pass to those that do.

Misspelling? I just thought that was your name for middle aged Utah band members!

I agree. I also agree that there's plenty to go around. The only thing I disagree on is when I see people known for their views targetting only other side. Is that true in this case? I don't know, but sometimes it looks like it to me.

Remember, you're dealing with a Southside, Chicago politician.

If Maher said that, he'd have an accident in the shower two days after he said it.

The best part of the "Civil War" idea, which side has disarmed already?

Actually, all of that makes any faux outrage that those on the right have about someone calling a woman a nasty name pretty pathetic and a transparent attempt at using it for political attack. Talk about hypocrisy.

Again, what's worse? A nasty name or requiring unwilling women to be penetrated via transvaginal ultrasound? If you're not up to speed, unwilling penetration with an object is called rape. No outrage over that. Heck no, Bristol gets her hackles up enough to write an open letter to the President over a dirty word though. But only if the dirty word came from a lefty. Otherwise it's just "satire."

Some people believe that fetus' are human beings and deserve protection under the law. Whether I agree with them or not I certainly wouldn't use it as a justification or excuse for committing other crimes and nor should you. That's like saying assault and battery is ok because other folks have been murdered.

At least the Republicans will quickly disown their transgressors whereas the Democrats only argument when it's one of their own seems to be to point at the other side and say "but they're oh so much worse!"

To me that's the real definition of hypocrisy.

Foot in mouth can be self-inflicted by the left, too:

http://omg.yahoo.com/blogs/now/rober...235146206.html

The appropriate political "rage" is now coming from the opposition. The GOP candidates are all over this, including Gingrich who somehow believes the President should apologize on behalf of De Niro:

Quote:
Gingrich, not satisfied with De Niro's apology and the First Lady's condemnation of the remark, is now also calling for the President himself to offer a mea culpa on behalf of the actor. "It was at an Obama fundraiser," added Gingrich. "It is exactly wrong, it divides the country."
So, Newt are you going to apologize for Rush?...
