Default Orphan sound files?

Hi all (First post on subsim ),

Quick question, in the files for SHIII, there are hundreds of sounds, yet my version only ever uses a couple of them. I'd really like the help of my navigator telling me when I was too close to the bottom, or telling me when I'm diving too deep, or the watch telling me when a ship is on a collision course; and the realism of my crew yelling "medic" or "we're all going to die", or "oh my god" etc.
How do I enable these?
I run SHIII with GWX gold, English text with German sounds if that helps at all.

All the best,

Chris

Click on your nav officer and a set of options will appear. One of them will be an icon (far right I believe) with a picture of a sub. Click on it and he will tell you depth under keal.

That will tell you how far you can dive. If you are nearing crush depth you will be advised by a message and I believe by voice.

If you are in heavy traffic have your watch officer give you updates on ship spotted. Depending on which mod you are using he will give you the distance to the nearest ship.

If you do have a collision your crew will say we are taking damage. One of the things I do is place a Petty Officer and two crew members into damage control prior to departing.

No, thats not what I mean- I have those as per normal. But if you look and play the German files, there are so many of them that are unused. It seems so redundant to have disc space used up with no actual influence on the game

I would guess they are language based. The German settings ( which I use) seem to have many more sounds, but the text is still in English, so I know what they're saying.

There are translations for each voice file in the configuration files, English and German. These include the standard "Yes, sir" and "We are diving too deep, sir!" But then the unused files show up... with things such as "Enemy radio message intercepted" and "Abandon ship!" I have yet to hear or see those messages. I'm thinking there was a bit of cut content.

Yes, my suspicion too. I should try attempting to make a mod to include this wonderful content...
