Default In Search of something new.

been trying some things out lately.

As of late ive tried out Hearts of Iron 3 and Men of War.

Hearts of Iron3 has turned out to be a great game, and i will continue to play it.

But men of war has turned out to be another "low-replayability" game similiar to World in Conflict. Its a good game, fun while it lasts, but it has little replayability, and alot of frustrating qualities like the annoying 1 shot kills the enemy tanks get through your superior tank's frontal aromor, for instance, the many times ive lost a panzer III Ausf F to an armored car THROUGH THE FRONTAL ARMOR. Tank warfare is a really quite ridiculous in that game, and while it was fun, it was very frustrating. The enemy AI was making impossible shots while my men would simply NOT through an AT grenade when i tell them to, and subsequently get hosed down. without firing a shot.

So, now ,im looking for something different. I was looking at IL-2 Sturmovik, but im afraid it will be like Heroes over europe, unplayable without a joystick. Is this the case? can anyone name off some games that are similar to Hearts of iron 3, or any good action naval games? Despite the obvious FPS type shoot em up gameplay in Battlestations pacific with little tactics/strategy involved, i liked the game for its somewhat originality, being that there are very few games that offer such wide scale combat experience. I also love Empire total war. Im a big RTS/TBS fanatic, and i love playing games taking place from the 17th-mid 20th century. Actually anything you might want to suggest, FPS, TBS, RTS, DCS, assuming it doesnt REQUIRE a joystick to play effectively. H.A.W.X 2 was somewhat interesting, seeing as how i got it for free when i bought my GTS 450, and it didnt require a joystick to fly the plane effectively, unlike Heroes over europe.

Ive been looking around the forums for a bit, of course, but there are many, many games ive never heard of that deserve some attention, such as, ive never heard of Hearts of iron 3 until i started looking at some threads. Flight Sims have always been tricky, ive played for hours trying to figure out how to take off in Flight Sim 2000, and crashed soon after. So perhaps anything super hardcore would be a bit out of my skill sets.

Multiplayer is where Men of War is very good, though it's still extremely frustrating at times, especially when the unit AI is concerned. I don't think I even played past the second Soviet campaign mission, though that might be in part because the campaign tends to be rather hard too.

IL-2 doesn't strictly require a joystick, seeing as I played it quite a lot before I got one, but it's rather hard to manage without one. If you absolutely can't get a joystick, I think there might be better games to get.

As for other games, it might help if you're looking for a specific genre. At the moment I can say that if you like Hearts of Iron 3, you should check out Paradox's other grand strategy games (Europa Universalis III, Europa Universalis: Rome, Victoria II, Sengoku and Crusader Kings II being the latest iterations). Each covers a different time period at about the same scale as HoI3, though they also have different focuses, so different features are expanded more upon in each one (HoI's focuses on warfare, Victoria on politics and economics, CK's on characters and dynasties and so forth).

Will do, check out Rainbow 6 Vegas. Ive heard about it but never gotten around to looking at it.

And Raptor, can i change the sensitivity settings in IL-2 Sturmovik? thats probably what i would end up doing as im too lazy to go get a joystick

Ill also look into the other games as well. I actually tend to stick with games that are before (or even waaay after, Sci-fi)the current stages of modern warfare. love the middle ages, Space age type stuff like Sins of a Solar Empire, WW2, WW1, Revolutionary era, Napoleonic era. But not too much modern warfare. If it is modern warfare, its pretty much solely FPS that i have currently, Like Battlefield Bad company 2, Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty 4, SOCOM US Navy Seals Combined Assault (on the PS2), Grand Theft Autos.

I also am a huge fan of Free Roam, hence GTA, And i kicked myself in the face for missing out on the 33% off skyrim deal recently. I used to be a PS2 junky, when i had a computer older than me, so all i played were age of empires 2, Starcraft 1 and brood war, and the original call of Duties and Medal of Honors. However all my PS2 games were very low replayability. Youd beat the campaign, and since i have no internet and no one was playing online, id be bored of it very quickly. Free roam games became what i strive for. Mercenaries: playground of Destruction, Star wars battlefront 2, Final Fantasy, and GTA became my favorite games. So now im looking into new games.

In that case look for the Mount&Blade series as well, particularly Warband and With Fire and Sword. They're open-ended RPGs set in a fictional 13th century world and 17th-century Eastern Europe, respectively. Not only do they have a lot of replayability, they also have tons of mods as well (Well, the original and Warband do, at least).

As for IL-2. No, you can't really change the sensitivity of the keys, at least not that I know. It's pretty unwieldy without a joystick.
