Interesting story. Honestly I don't know very much about his presidency, but hats off to Ike!
![]() Another thing that speaks for him, is that we still use his time management principle today - can't say that of too many work methods from over half a century ago. |

That's a really good point. And also kudos to Ford for the pardoning of Nixon; something for which he took a lot of heat at the time, but also something that most people conceded was the right thing to do for the nation. He also knew when to step aside. How many other politicians would do such a thing? Truly, a great man and an underrated one at that.

![]() It is not really off topic though to be honest a good portion or Dr.Strangelove uses the "missile gap" as inspiration. My favorite part though was when they call the Soviet Premier "Dmitri" and the Soviet Ambassador says the President before handing the phone over "Be careful Mr. President I believe that he had been drinking." You know there was another "missile gap" in the mid 70's some might recall the USAF MX program. They even made a "documentary" with actual USAF missile men and B-52 crewman as well as the crew of a "Looking Glass" EC-135 the film was called "First Strike" it shows our(the US) ICBM,bomber, and submarine get wiped out in a first strike form the Soviets and then show several "experts" explain how we need the MX program to avoid a first strike. All of the scenes of the USAF personal where later used in "The Day After" which is why some the scenes of the US airmen seems so well done it is because they where real airmen not actors other bits contain actors from TV film. The "Firts Strike" film was made by some California Public Television but I suspect that the USAF and like minded folks paid for it.Someone just took parts from "First Strike" and added then into "The Day After" Here is a link to the 1st clip on youtube check it out all the USAF and Navy personal are real they are not acting or actors well the events are real not obviously. There is a second part with the experts explaining the need for the MX.The idea for the MX ICBM had been around since the mid 60's.Actually there are 4 parts if you want to see the entire thing it is fairly interesting the remaining 3 parts are all various experts explaining the danger of the gap and the need for the MX system.
