Default Finally Able To Play SHIII Again!

Hey guys! Finally able to paly SHIII again on my rig. Even though I have a widescreen HDMI tv as a monitor, I can play in windowed mode, and just hit the zoom on the tv remote, and it is perfect for the native 1024 x 768 SHIII resolution. Just have sidebars is all, but I can deal with that.

Anyways, I got rid of all my SHIII mods back when, because i could no longer play it, except for GWX 2.1. and SHIII Commander.

One mod I inadvertantly dumped, was the Crush Depth Mod I think by Timetraveller maybe? Is that little gem still available? I not, oh well.

But hey, after 4 years, I can finally play the U-Boat game of chaice again! Woohoo!

If not, is there a way to mod the crushdepths for the individual class boats?

Sorry to be a bother, but work has been heavy. Clocked in at 04:00, and just got home an hour ago, so that gave me almost 15 hours for toady alone.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

SHIII still rocks! And after 4 years, ................. man, ................. it's sweet!

Welcome back to the pack!

It's always good to have an experienced hand back in the pens.

Not familiar with that one, but you could always take a look here and see if it's included in Timetraveller's collection:

ftp://Maik@hartmuthaas.no-ip.org/Vol.../TIMETRAVELLER/

Username: Maik
Password: Woelfe

If not, the crush depths can be modded manually by changing the appropriate .zon file for the desired boat.

You'll need to use the S3D editor, (available here):

http://s3d.skwas.com/downloads.aspx

to open 'SH3\data\Submarine\NSS_UboatXX\NSS_UboatXX.zon' (Where 'XX' is the type of boat you want to mod). Once there open node 27 (for type 7b and 7c) and adjust the 'CrashDepth' value as desired.

Good luck, welcome back and have fun!

SH3 Commander has it's own randomized crush depth function. It's all you need.

Thanks for the quick response FITW!

The link is asking for a login and password, so that's nix.

I'll have to look into the appropriate zon files for each boat and tweak them.

His Crushdepth Mod was cool, because you could take your boat into the red zone on the depth guage, but how far? You didn't know. But you take your boat way passed what the stock game offerred.

I remember the worst depth charging we took, was either late 43, or early 44 not too far from the Azores, and the VIIC 41 boat I think we had, well, we were down deeper than 250m., and had 7 escorts trying to knock us out. After 9 hours of realtime evasion, we finally lost them! Man was I exhausted after that!

Once we got clear, I if memory serves, I think I snuck in just close enough to fire a couple acoustic eels at then in retaliation, but didn't hang around to watch the fireworks. It was dark, and saw a couple flashes in the distance, and it was good enough for me!

Thanks Steve! I tried it, and i got my VIIB down around 110, just into the yellow zone on the dial, and started taking damage (?)

And it was a practice run out in deep water, so it wasn't hitting the bottom or anything lie that, and hull integrity was 100% to start off.

That's the thing that makes SH3 so unique. You take a pounding that totally wears you out and yet it creates a great memory. Can't say that about many other games. Good stuff, thanks for sharing!

It's randomized. So you never know. However it is easy to check in Commander's Cfg files and change the parameters.

No worries, and now that I know you were looking for random crush, by all means I'd go with Commander. Simplest solution, no muss no fuss.

Enjoy the big screen and good hunting!

Yep! Thanks!

Looking at the crushdepths in the nodes, as a for instance, one of the boats said it 371.00, now it that meters in depth fr maximum depth? Just making sure i understand it is all.

I can't use it because the game file path it looks for does not match my game path, and I can't figure out how to change it.

The first "page" in the Options box, the area circled in red. Use the "..." button to browse to your game folder, or to the one for the version of the game you want Commander to launch (if you have more than one installation).
