Default Always miss just behind merchant!!

So i have been trying the 4 bearing meathod latly that i watched a tutorial on from Stoin. I use to be able to do this just fine, but ever sence i came back it seems like every shot i take always goes behind the target.

At first i thought it was the speed of the boat was wrong, but this last time i had tool tips on so i knew her speed was 13. Which when i measured out the distance between the first mark and the third mark i had come out with 7. Not sure why that is. On this last run, i shot three torps, 1 on the front, 1 on the middle and one at the end of the ship. All three torps passed just behind her, by like meters. I was doing the fast 90 attack so range shouldnt have been a factor.

Only thing i have noticed is that everytime i hit the "Z" key to get nearest contact while doing the plotting is that it will say like 83 degrees but then the sonor man voice will actully call out 82 degrees. the difference between what the sonor man calls and what shows when i hit the Z key is always 1 degree more. i dont remeber ever haveing that issue before. anyone have any idea what this could be or what my problem is. Below is my current mod soup..

+1 on the opening doors first, its a very common mistake

also dont underestimate the ship may change course if they spot your scope so limit how long you keep it up and it greatly increases your accuracy

Nope doors are always open first, so i know that wasnt it. As for the scope i usally only keep it up 15 secs at a time, for the reason. But thank you for the input. like i said i think it has to do with him calling out the degree himself always being 1 degree different then when i hit the Z key. because after 4 times of that im 4 degrees different with my map work.

4 degrees may be the reason its happening.

a simple solution might be to just target the bow and that should put you at midship

also are you still off the same amount when firing the stern tubes?

hmm not sure about the stern tube. Dont think i have ever tried shooting one of those. I know i just did the travelly tutorial on 4 bearing all over again to see if i was doing something wrong. Other then my lines not being the same as his.

Im wandering could all this be caused because i am using the mano scope mod 16:9 when in fact my resalution is 1440x900, which i believe is actully 16:10. Could that cause all my problems?

Im going to uninstall that scope mod and give it try and see

It very well could be. If you're using my UIs mod I have patches that will calibrate the scope to your display.

i am using yours but none of the scopes that come with yours come with a 16:10 ratio, they all only have 16:9 ratio.

The scopes that comes with TDW has for sure 16:10 ratio
just do the math 16/10 = 1.6 = 1440/900 = 1.6 = 8/5 = 1.6 so just use the 8x5 Manus Scopes. I'm playing with those on 1440x900 in windwed mode without having any issues

Thank you, i was just coming back to post an edit to my last LOL. After doing a search i found how you get the 1.6 thing. never new that before, so i am off to put in the 8x5 ratio one.

Thanks again all..

By the way TDW do you know what might be causing the other issue of the sonar man saying on his own the contact info of say 330 degrees but if i hit the Z key at the same time or just after it will always tell me 1 degree different. so it would show 331 degrees.

To give the soundman the order "what's the bearing to nearest soundcontact" is a mistake. Because bearing of 359.6 T, ...,000.4°T is always 000°T for the soundman. And that causes errors. Here, in this example, at a distance of 6600m, the error was 300m.

- At 00:30:45, soundman reported "soundcontact, merchant, long range"
- At 01:00:00am the commander ordered to start the 4-bearing-method with a 10min interval. The soundman called out: ship at 287° True, long range.
- At 01:10:00am the soundman called out:" merchant at 290° True, long range.
- At 01:20:00am the soundman called out:" merchant at 295° True, long range.

The commander ordered to determin the course of the ship and get this result:

True course of the ship was, however, C 090°T, S 07kts.

The situation is different with using the order "Follow the nearest soundcontact".

Well ETsd4 i understand what you are saying for the most part, and i concure with you. I also think that is part of my problem. I figured that 1 degree would add up over time. Only reason i have been doing that is bacuase in both tutorials that is how they do it.

Stoinam says in his tutorial that you must do the z key cause the sound man will lag and not call out at exactly the time you need, and in the one that is in automation he also does that.

I thought when i use to play that i didnt have this problem. I could have sworn that it would always give the same bearing when i hit the Z key to what he would call out being on follow nearest contact. That is why i was asking what may have changed it.

And thankyou Trevally, i forgot all about that mod. Downloaded it and installed

When you are using the 4 bearing to find ship info - you should also check this info with your scope.
So just use the 4 bearing to get into the best area to attack from - then use a scope attack.

Just using the hdro to attack a ship without ever raising your scope is very hard. You would want to take many more reading to cut out any errors.
