Anyone can think up and build a giant plane. It takes skill and vision to build them small...

Known as Frisch's Big Boy around these parts, and very much a part of the local consciousness. Or at least it is for those of us who grew up with one nearby.

I grew up with Bob's in Cantafordya. When I moved to Utah it was JB's Big Boy. Interesting.

The whole Big Boy thing including menu & mascot was originally franchised out to a bunch of regional franchisees which is why people in one part of the country remember "Bob's Big Boy" and others remember "Frisch's Big Boy." I also remember it as "Shoney's Big Boy" and it's probably because that's what it was in a lot of states we either visited or traveled through on a regular basis when I was growing up. I seem to remember being very confused as a child over the whole Shoney's/Frisch's thing, because where I came from the Big Boy "belonged" to Frisch's and I couldn't understand why these people with the funny accents kept calling him "Shoney."

What I didn't know until just now is that, according to Wikipedia, Frisch's was not only the first regional franchisee but is also the only one still holding franchise rights. Man, I haven't eaten inside a Frisch's in years, but I had some of their vegetable soup last week when someone at work picked up stuff there for lunch. Still tastes just like I remember and definitely makes the all-time Comfort Food list. Plus they always had the best Cherry Cokes, some people used to (and still do) go there just for that. And IIRC the onion rings... oh and this grilled ham and cheese sandwich on dark rye bread... and the pumpkin pies, a local tradition this time of year.

Dammit you guys now I want Frisch's.

Maybe I'll get some carryout from there this weekend. I wonder if they have online ordering?

I completely despise that picture.

its a total hoax, it never existed, was never built.... and being somewhat of an aviation expert people email me that pic at least 3 times a year wanting an explanation.

its just as bad as the video of the stunt plane landing with one wing.

but... if they ever built it... i would be in the long line of volunteers asking to drive it

Drive it?! Heck, as the captain you would probably have to give orders, since flying that monstrosity would require a man for every axis of control you have. It would look right at home in Sky Captain though.

I prefer race planes though.

Love those lines!
