Default Can't get a career to start ...

As the title suggest's I can't get a career to begin

All the other things work well like the missions and the tests

I have tried to re-install this several times all with the same results ... I have noticed that on re-intalls that I don't have to put the CD verify code in ... any ideas on why this is happenin' ?

Thanks for any help

Can you specify exactly what happens when you start a career?

Reason I ask is that if the issue is that the red loading bar gets close to the end and then seems to hang, this is perfectly normal on some computers (my old one for example) and could go as long as 5 minutes when I had GWX installed on it.

The first few times it happened to me I thought it crashed too and ended up cancelling out and trying again. Eventually I just left it alone to see what happened and sure enough it loaded up.

In my experience load times (especially with GWX and other mods installed) are longer when starting a career. For missions and tutorials it only loads the stuff it needs for your specific objectives; for a career it loads the full campaign files which include (at least) traffic for one entire theater of operations, by default the North Sea and Atlantic unless you're using one of the mods that only loads traffic for smaller alternate areas of the SH3 world.

I'm running SH3 patched and GWX 3.0 Gold

The load does as you say it does ... the screen will go black like it's loading and then nothin'

Once the load bar finishes, and the screen goes black, it will still take a minute or two for the sim to finish loading.

Trust me it's not loadin' at all

And as I stated when I first loaded the sim I had to put in the verification code that came with the game ... I have since re-installed the stupid thing because I had problems with SH3 Commander not loadin' a career and I was gettin' a error message ( something to do with a sh.exe and a kernell.dll error )

Whenever I re-installed the game I have not had to re-enter the verification code that came with the game ... not sure why

Anyways this has been a pain in the arse

IIRC, kernel.dll errors are usually indicative of RAM issues... what are your specs and what other mods are you running (if any)?

No idea if these will solve the problem you're having, but they're worth a shot.

If using Steam:
  • It sounds simple, and you've probably already done so, but have you gone into your "Steam/steamapps/common" folder, and checked to see if the "Silent Hunter 3" folder was still there? (Even after Steam was supposed to have deleted it.) I find that most of the time Steam doesn't get rid of everything if mods left any junk behind. Afterwards, you can have Steam install the game again, and then install GWX and any other mods. (See the next suggestion before installing mods.)
  • After installing SH3 on Steam, and before installing any mods, try right-clicking "Silent Hunter III" on the game list, and choosing "Properties". Click the "Local Files" tab, and then click "Verify integrity of game cache". (Just to double-check if it was downloaded properly.

    General advice:
  • Also check the "My Documents" folder, and if you don't care about your past save data, delete/recycle the "SH3" folder.
  • If you've recently updated your graphics drivers, it might be worth a shot trying the previous version. If you have not updated lately, it probably wouldn't hurt to try updating.
  • If you're using SH3 Commander with GWX, remember to install the GWX config files for it.

The code is still in your registry. Removing SH3 does not clean everything out. To get everything you need to clean the registry too.

I fought myself. Hans the uberman hit it dead on.
When you install mods and things like jsgme, when steam deletes it only deletes the native files. The MODS folder will still be in there along with fragments of other mods. Delete the SH3 folder, then reinstall.

Seriously do what that fine gentleman said, I had to find this crap out through trial and error, and wish I had read the above quoted post a week ago!

I don't use SHIII with STEAM so thats not the problem

I went in the registry and deleted the SHIII file there and then I re-installed and everything went well ... so I then slowly added MODS via JSGME and low and behold the culprit of my problem was the Merchant Fleet Mod

Why would this be the problem with my careers not starting

Because MFM adds more than 100 ship models to the game, and is a huge resource hog. I can't run it either.

Two gigs of RAM just won't cut it. I also notice you don't list your video card. What's the status of that?
