I love Commander, so far. It's infinitely more useful option-wise than the in-game menus.

I always just assumed that:
Slow Ahead = silent running / drydock taxiing
1/3 = harbor speed
1/2 or standard = normal sailing

I never figured you'd use 1/3 for regular "commuting". I'll have to try that.

And again my pathological need to do it right shows through, no matter what the game allows. Moving into or out of the the dock I never exceed one knot. When inside the harbor (as indicated by lighthouse positions) I never travel faster than the real-world limit of five knots. Once at sea it's setting 2 all the way. In the patrol zone it's setting 1 unless I'm chasing something.
