Default How does giving out medals work? SHcmd

I thought I read somewhere that medals in SHCmdr were meaningless as far as having any effect on the game. The game seems kinda of stingy when giving out medals. sorry I'm a lil confused. I haven not been giving out any medals thru Cmdr thinking it really was a waste of time.

Hi,

I also give away medals from game.. Well I also have a faint understanding in SH3Cmdrs give away medal sequence..

I don't like the option in there especially in assign of qualifications. You can basicly abuse this option and make all your petty officers hold specific qualification. Example: To assign every petty officer to repair qualification and so on..

...i seem to recall that giving your crew anymore than two qualifications is useless - because after that they fail to have any effect - and its doubtable that the second one also functions, but on this im not so sure.

i tend to apply my qualifications through the game and not SHCommander and sometimes when i feel they deserve it, a medal/promotion through SHCommander.

im not really sure how it all works in combination - SH3 and SHCommander?

but im sure someone here will - much better than me!!

You may be right about assigning a 2nd qualification. I just did a run and had assigned one of my officers a medic qualification. Being that I am the only one here that use's a fatigue model. AnyHoo he didn't seem to have the effect I was looking for. As far as assigning your petty officers a qualification, I don't have a problem with that. On my Type II there isn't a large crew anyways. Plus if you do random crew transfers you may lose ppl.
I would assume these guys had some type of schooling to get here, right?

All you have to do is read the SH3 Commander User Guide:

A common question raised through forums has been "will my Crew Manager changes be recognised within Silent Hunter III?". To answer this question:

· awarding *any* qualifications to officers impacts compartment efficiency as if they were awarded via Silent Hunter III;

· awarding the *first* qualification to a Chief Warrant Officer impacts compartment efficiency as if awarded via Silent Hunter III;

· awarding subsequent qualifications to a Chief Warrant Officer, whilst being recognised in Silent Hunter III, has no effect in Silent Hunter III;

· awarding a qualification to a Petty Officer impacts compartment efficiency as if awarded via Silent Hunter III;

· awarding a qualification to a seamen, whilst being recognised in Silent Hunter III, has no effect in Silent Hunter III;

· awarding any medal or badge has the same effect as if awarded via Silent Hunter III;

· promoting/demoting has the same effect as if awarded via Silent Hunter III (although there is no demotion via Silent Hunter III);

So, only qualifications awarded to seamen or extra qualifications awarded to Chief Warrant Officers are, despite being recognised in the game, not effective in the game.

Glad to help. Also, for future reference, to access the UG just open Commander and click on the '?' in the lower left corner.
