1. Since that rude and impolite way of speaking is the natural one of those of us who're not blue-blooded aristocrats, and 2. since the asterisked way of speaking is the one of those who show they've got some education not to display their anger publicly, wishing to keep up appearances on the internet - ROFL - (the internet being what it is, I don't need to use asterisks there : everyone knows what I mean) just shows how much some people can be into fighting for lost causes.

I don't mean you're wrong. It's just not even worth trying. But well, you're the boss in here. Proceed as if thou hadst the power to make a delicate and gracious person out of all peasants.

I have been giving out warnings for the past two weeks on this, and some of our other mods have been giving out several informal warnings (PMs). Again it is happening because I am seeing far to much of this. Once things calm down again and I am not seeing very many, I will probably go back to issuing warnings and remove the sticky. Just for some reason lately we have been dealing with a heck of a lot of them.

On another angle with asterix use, if I was to become one of the loony types of fundamentalist who write "g*d" as writing the full word is going to get me struck by lightning and cast into the pits of h*ll to be prodded by a demon with a pitchf**k for all enternity, would that be an infractionable use of asterix?
It may seem like extracting the urine but the truth of it is that a person who writes g*d would probably find it offensive and vulgar for people to write "god".
Again I will use reasonable judgment. If I can't turn the asterisks into a swear word I will not infract. So g*d is perfectly acceptable as is h*ll. I would be careful with pitchf**k as I can insert a swear there (though it doesn't make a whole lot of sense so I probably wouldn't infract). I also will read the **** in the context of the sentence to see if it makes sense as being a swear or not.

Generally speaking the filter filters out swear words only, but it sometimes can screw up. Reading your own post after posting is one way to deal with it if you are concerned.

Again I have no especial desire to give out infractions, so if it is questionable I will probably not give you an infraction. I am also willing to debate to a limited extent an infraction issued, and can nullify it. I also really do not have much in the way of power here, nor am I an aristocrat. I simply enforce the rules Neal set out. Can I temp ban people? Sure, but only if they did something that deserves a temp ban, otherwise I would get into trouble for it. Ask any moderator at Subsim if they think they have power, and they will all tell you they don't. In fact as moderators we have to behave ourselves far more than any regular member as we are an example. So not only do we really have no power, we also have much more limited freedom in what we post.

get a copy of 'The Hobbit' and you can work out the olde english runes. They appear similar (from what I remember of reading/writing them) to the anglo saxon runes on that transposer. With one or two exceptions for certain letters/sounds: X, I & U used for J & V, CW for Q and some single runes for double letters like th, ng, ee, ea, st...

EDIT:
of course that was all a long time ago

Why don't we just use the enigma machine sim? then rogue skippers can communicate without bdu rapping any knuckles? lol

Gah, now you made me do it again! I learned both Futharks a while back during a course on medieval history and its research methods and got a new hobby with translating these.

You silly donkey farmers! Now I can't sleep for weeks!
